While at El Camino High School, Acosta won the 2005 Foot Locker National Championships, 2006 NON 2-Mile, and 2006 U.S. Junior Championships 1,500 meters to earn a spot on Team U.S.A. for the Junior World Championships. He also won California state titles in cross country and track in his senior year. At Oregon, Acosta defended his U.S. Junior 1,500m title. As a Duck, he has earned All-American distinctions multiple times and broke Steve Prefontaine's school mile record. Acosta ran the 1,200 leg of Oregon's NCAA Championship DMR in 2009 and has been on two NCAA Championship teams (2007 XC and 2009 Indoor).
