In the fourth installment of Run Junkie we look at messages from Usain Bolt while in the USA and 2x World Champ Trey Hardee gives his Chicago Marathon analysis. We look at the Wisconsin men's cross country results to see how good they are after the Bill Dellinger Invite. Nick Symmonds is using his extra time to rally the troops against the governing bodies in track and field to get this changed for the athletes. And we look at some high school domination and course records with Daniel Moore, Edward Cheserek and Amy Eloise-Neale!

Good stuff, guys. Although, I must admit, I am a little disappointed that you didn't take advantage of the plethora of stachies at OSU. Never seen so many guys sitting around with hardcore stachies.

Thanks so much for these roundups. I can't keep track of all the news that happens each week so it's awesome to be able to get these (hilarious) quick hits. Appreciate it!

The no Love for OU-Sooners is pretty obivous. So much for Fair & Balanced reporting. Hey its your website. Here is a New Script for the weekend rundown.

Wisco - 24 points @ Dil. Basically a Dual meet, No fear of the Big O . This is classic old school XC-team.
OU -34 points @ P-Short. Makes the East go back to the Black Board. "Dean" Smith has Boomer and Sooner rolling
BYU - 46 points @ ND Nothing like Old Oak - Strong & Hard. The Big-12 has chairs open.
OK St - 54 points @ Cowboy. Top 4 are very good, probably the best in the country
Number 5 could be 1 of 3 top finshers from last yrs-nats. ( 2 All-Americans here and almost a 3rd)
"Stubbs" did run - sort of - placed 118 Johnathan Stublaski Oklahoma State 26:09.43 he'll be back
Joseph Manilafasha - hurt
Girma Mecheso - is he even enrolled and going to class at OSU, if he is... its another Orange day on the Stand in Terre Haute.

Actually Jonathan Stublaski did run for Oklahoma State. Maybe since he finished way back in the pack no one seemed notice it. Do the research before posting guys!

Governing Bodies Smothering Bo 2 years ago

By the way, the full name title that I used was "Governing Bodies Smothering Bodies" for those who want to know. Also, you can look up USATF's 2010 and 2009 financial statement on their website under the about tab, then go to financials and then statements. And yes flotrack, if you would like me to blog or write for you then the answer is yes. Thank you and good nignt.

Great job guys, show's better every episode! I love it! Run Junkie! Now about the whole governing bodies thing, USATF had over 5.8 million in cash and cash equivalents at the end of 2010. How about they give up more prize money to the athletes competing since they are a 501c(3) non-profit organization. I mean really guys, what is the point of having a non-profit organization if your profiting millions more than what you budget for? I think more of that should be invested in prize money, which in turn would doubtlessly increase the amount of members when people start to see that running fast pays off. It might even increase the competition at the top and bring times down. If your running for more money than say 2k for first place, you might just have an incentive to put your body through all that torture for who knows how long and win the darn race.

I agree with Nick Symm's article:
THis is so true! I recently read an article of one of the BEST trail runners in the world & was floored when I saw how much money he got for winning 2 championship trail races WITHIN 24 hours!!

Max King of Oregon won the USA 50K Trail Championships in Bend Oregon on Saturday Sept 24, 2011. The next day on Sunday he WON by nearly 4 minutes the 2011 XTERRA (21K) Trail Run National Championships in Snowbasin Resonrt near Ogdon, Utah (another state!). This was King's 4th consecutive XTERRA Nat'l Championship. Fellow Oregon runner Mario MENDOZA said, "(King) is built for the trails... he's definetly shown he's the BEST trail runner in the US and in the world, too."
Then I looked down at the PRIZE MONEY & saw that 1st Place (KING) received $1000, & 2nd Place (MENDOZA) got $600. I wonder how much they spend on hotel & airflight & food on their trip out of state.
My son is a very talented runner that truly does love running. But it makes me wonder if I should influence him into another sport that will actually put a roof over his head & food on the table? I'd love to know where to go from here, who to talk to, who to fight with so more money is opened up for ALL talented runners...

head to hand. On a serious note, why dont athletes start to form a union, get some big names, resist showing up at meets etc. defy IAAF, USATF

Hahaha. You guys are hilarious. Good updates for the week. Can't wait for your recap for the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational in a couple weeks...

Wait! What about Oklahoma dominating 5 ranked teams at Lehigh and jumping Stanford in the polls for #3?
