Congrats to Lalang. He looked like German looked when setting the record back in 2009. I've been following German since his senior year in high school. 2009 was great for him other than the non finish in the xc nationals. Sometimes we don't find out until a year later what is wrong with him. Last year (or the year before) it was anemia. Maybe he's burned out. who knows. He's still young and has endless possibilities for the future. If he wants and can stay injury free.

If German had an injury free college career up to now, things would be extremely different. It's amazing that there are people that still don't understand that.
Craig Virgin won the World X-C Championship in 1980 and 1981 than got seriously sick. He did make the 1984 Olympic team in the 10k but was never near to what he was in the early 80's. He himself said that it took him years to get back into competitive shape although he could never get in the shape when he won Worlds.
I still enjoy watching German run regardless if he's first or last.

Man German was a badass and whatever he is going through, he is the only one who can figure it out. I just hope he does it fast, just like the way he used to run. Whatever it is, to me, he is a legit! Go German!!

Worth noting that Lalang had two rabbits and German ran his record all by himself.

"Gotta be frustrating........" 1 year ago

You damn right! How does a guy who ran what, 3:55 as a 17/ 18 year old end up putting that out there? There is no hate in my mind or heart for this guy, I really do want to see him succeed! Fernandez is like a fine stallion that is being trained like a common farm horse, What the hell is Smith doing? Sorry to go bipolar here but this really pisses me off! I can't wait until he leaves OSU and gets away from Smith and is taken onboard by someone with some real cred who can bring out of him what he's so capable of doing! Its like watching an amazingly fast car at The Indy 500 get ruined by the pit crew! I don't think it's about what's in Germans head as much as it is about what's in Dave Smiths wallet!

Gotta be frustrating for the collegiate record holder to be in an all collegiate race and do no more than let a guy, who ran almost as fast as he has, go from the gun. Rough.

diango estrada is the man!! had he been in this race he'd had said "f*ck it ima go with lalang!" estrada can do with one nut, what we cant with two! its saddens me to see fernandez hasnt really done much since freshman year. he was my idol

Mike Tank 1 year ago

Lalang is a force to be reckoned with. I don't think that Fernandez will hold the record that much longer...

fart breath 1 year ago

that was awesome.....stop hating on fernandez....4:05 is still fast...yes he has run under 4 (3.55) but come on any college athlete should be happy with an early season 4.05 that I am sure he did not peak for....impressive performance by lawi sometimes these fast times just click

Painful! 1 year ago

That was SIMPLY PAINFUL TO WATCH! What the hell????? Lawi looked great but what the hell is going down with Fernandez? Does he just not give a sh#t anymore? I KNOW! YOU KNOW! WE ALL FRICK'IN KNOW! that he can do way better than that piss-ant effort! Where the hell is all the passion????? Where the hell, is all the speed and power that we know he has?????? German has more MOXIE than all of those dudes combined, where the hell did it go???? Start using it DUDE!!!!!!! Come on man, get the fire back in your belly!!!!!! Your throwing this away, Why????

The collegiate record of 3:55.02 set by German Fernandez of Oklahoma State.. So fernandez still has de record?

Wow 1 year ago

and no one even dared to go with him. German needs to stop running like a lil girl and pick up the slack. He hasn't even run close to how he use to run back freshman year. It's an olympic year, too.

Not gonna lie 1 year ago

After German ran that 3:55 his freshmen year I thought he'd be running 3:52 by now. Diego Estrada should have been in this race haha

Wow. 1 year ago

All alone for 800m. Incredible.
