Flotrack's Best of 2011 - Double Take of the Year!
- You had to look twice when you heard the results "Rudisha got beat!" Many would have thought Kaki to be the only one with a shot at the world record holder, but to the surprise of everyone the loss came from a 17 year old Ethiopian named Mohamed Amman. For Amman, the world youth silver medalist at 800 meters, notched the biggest win of his young career while also snapping Rudisha's 34 race winning streak.

Amman is actually 17 he comes from a wealthy background by their standards and has lived a privileged life in Ethiopia. At most even if they dont have legit birth certificates their real age is plus or minus 2 years from the age they use. |

A World Youth 800m record of 1:44.08 was set in Lille at the IAAF WYC 2011 (July). Unless it has been broken again since July, Amman's time is a new World Youth record. The World Youth Record does belong to him but it was set last on September 10th of this year in Rieti Italy where he ran 1:43.37. Amman Came third place behind Rudisha (1:41.33) and Adam Kszczot (1:43.30) According to the IAAF he is 17 |

Why think that Amman is 25? Rudisha is only like 21 or 22 and he's the world record holder and you're not giving him any sh*t. Eliud Kipchoge ran 12:52 and defeated El Guerrouj and Bekele and became world champion when he was 18, so why give Amman sh*t. He's a young talent! Give him some credit! He ran a great race. Props to Rudisha though, what a great sport! He's a great guy and this definitely relieves his "undefeated" pressure. |

Rudisha showed a lot of class in his defeat. In a way, i think this is good for him. He no longer has the pressure of being undefeated on his back and his only loss came AFTER his world championship gold. No one's going to think of his single loss in Milano, but rather his WRs and gold medal. But Rudisha is a "mortal" for sure. |

Mad respect for Rudisha! He took the loss with a lot of class... There is no way in hell that Amman is 17. At Youth and Junior events if you can't produce a valid birth certificate, you shouldn't be allowed to compete. Congrats to Amman either way he's quick, but don't go crazy thinking he's 17... 25 at best in my opinion. |
