Galen Rupp had one of the most succesful collegiate distance careers of all time. A XC champ, and multiple time track champ, Galen talks about the NCAA system and how he had to balance the long collegiate season with trying to run on the international stage in the summer. Could have Galen gone Pro early? Probably, but Galen dosent regret any of his time at UO and so far his decision seems to be working out pretty well.

Who cares about how fast Prefontaine was. To me he wasn't a good role model for people. He drank, smoked, and partied I know a lot you may do the same but to me those are LOW STANDARDS and MORALS. He had an ego and seemed full of himself. |

I'm not a world class runner and I don't think you are either. Galen is and he knows what he's talking about. Your running plan of run fast all the time just doesn't work and rupp is America's best distance runner so shut up. |

@Anonymous Coward below - name one charismatic distance runner on the planet right now who also wins medals? i don't know any. lasse viren consistently destroyed prefontaine and was quiet and soft spoken. same with haile, kenenisa on and on...i hear you and think we need a prefontaine, but lets focus on success first. root for the rupp robot, he's BY FAR our best american born runner (3:34, 26:48, soon to be sub 13:00) |

then run fast all the time! wtf, leave it out on the track everytime, cmon man...idk, excited about this olympic year and excited to see Americans getting faster and competing but these guys are so boring to listen to...America needs a distance star like Prefontaine again, someone with charisma otherwise distance running will stay low coverage in the nations perspective. |
