acidic foods are a poor choice for anyone though..not JUST endurance athletes. I'm not saying you can't have any..but it's not really good for you. But it's all about moderation and there are LOTS of foods/beverages that aren't good for you in high quantity..so it doesn't really matter.
I never said a word about caffeine. I'm talking about acid vs. alkaline.
And "Registered Dietitian" -- there IS peer-reviewed research available that DOES support the statement that acid foods are a poor choice for endurance athletes.
fairly interesting. Java and Tea fiends like myself knowing that caffeine is supposedly bad...supposedly, yet still drink it. I've always drank it not for an edge, but because it's striking taste. YES it's true that for some people it's not the best of choices, but for those that are acclimated to the effects...amen and more power to you, I know I won't stop. But I'll also say that it is as well interesting that afforementioned dilation of blood vessels, not veins, but no matter...causes increased HR..Ironic in that my RHR is anywhere 38-44, even on days of great caffeine consumption. Similar low HR among caffeine consumers?
You can certainly improve even your best performance by paying attention to how you fuel your body, but there is always room to enjoy life, our bodies and metabolic systems are amazingly adaptable (but not always in a good way!) I would caution anyone getting "educated" on google. Don't waste time narrowly worrying about acidic/alkaline foods, this approach is not supported by peer-reviewed research and there are so many other things happening in our bodies.
Everyone just needs to quit aruguing about wats in what kind of food and drinks.
We're all runners and we burn loads of calories aday,we can afford to eat ANYTHING.
Just eat people and quit complaining about how bad caffeine is for runners.
I eat candy, fried food, and take lots of caffiene everyday(for work mostly) and it doesn't affect my running in any way.
caffeine actually helps boost the performance of endurance athletes when taken before and during activity. its been done for years by athletes at all ability levels, so maybe YOU are the one, Scott, that needs to educate themselves.
I wouldn't say "NO hint of hate"
"I hope someone can tell Kim (before the Olympics) that coffee is nasty-acidic, and acidic foods are a really BAD choice for endurance athletes. Alkaline foods/liquids are a much wiser source of energy. Do some Googling to educate yourself! Also, it's smart to learn about the Glycemic index."
All I ask is to respect her for her choice, since she has proven herself as an world-caliber athlete
And to Scott Elliott: there are always people who are beliigerent and wanting to attack back at any small thing. To truly set yourself at a higher mark than others, don't take their bait and post one yourself.
Nice attitude, y'all. I respectfully post an informed comment with NO hint of hate, and the comebacks are juvenile and spiteful. Did any of you even bother to research this before replying?
Maybe Kim actually does _not_ know of this topic; I was posting so she might be able to get one more possible competitive advantage in her quest to get a medal. And the video clearly indicates she just recently took up the 3x/day coffee habit.
hey scott, stfu. let people enjoy the lil things in life
try old and needs a hip replacement
she has set all the NZ records off of coffee drinking. oh yeah, and she's ranked #2 in the world in the 10k in 2008
Yes, because I'm sure as a professional athlete and one of the top in the nation, she wouldn't know as much as you, Scott.
I hope someone can tell Kim (before the Olympics) that coffee is nasty-acidic, and acidic foods are a really BAD choice for endurance athletes. Alkaline foods/liquids are a much wiser source of energy. Do some Googling to educate yourself! Also, it's smart to learn about the Glycemic index.
just to clear a couple things up.....
1) Jeff is correct, Kim will be running NYC Marathon in November
2) Its not Mark doing this one
3) The coffee was good....the waffers and whipped cream make it for sure
Kim is going to be running NYC in November.
That's definitely Ryan doing the interview not Mark...
That's called addiction... but coffee has caffeine which will open up your vaines and increase your heart rate.
the coffee looked soo good!
she seems soo cool
She's great!
Thanks for the video.
kim smith cracks me up. such a dry and somewhat sarcastic sense of humor. she's great. More Kim Smith!!!
what marathon is she running this fall?
She's adorable and endearing. I credit Mark with having a rapport with two such disparate personalities as Kim and Sarah Jamieson. Yes, Kim is shy and you'd think she would have gotten more used to being a semi-public figure a bit, but ...you know, the way she is is what made her #5 in the world in the 10,000 last year. So good for her.
..old.........people......everywhere
the coffee looks ridiculously good though
seems pretty cool
1. Although she always seems shy (like the rest of the run providence folk), she always seems open to interviews etc.
2. She was fourth at Worlds last year, NCAA record holder etc. etc.
3. She is not even slightly unattractive
4. There is the whole reebok series thing
wut's flotracks fascination w/ kim smith???? it's not like she's hot like kara goucher
wow.. eight mile tempo on a track? you have to do what works for ya..
