Clearly was the olympic champion of these games, hands down. What he did has never been accomplished in swimming ever before. I dont understand why people are always complaining that swimming is easier to recover than track is, where is the evidence??? I think it comes down to the fact that the athletes in swimming are more able to recover quicker due to the intense training workload at earlier ages. You cant argue with the fact that at the time MP broke his first WR he had already been training for 9 years, at which point many world class runners begin running.

I made a site about the debate between Phelps and Bolt. It's getting some interesting responses. I hope you'll stop by and share your opinions!

The performance of Phelps cannot be compared to Bolt. Bolt is competing in the most competitive sporting event in the world and breaking world records which many believed could not be broken. Phelps is using ergogenic sporting aids such as chemically enhanced water at the water cube & speed suits which have helped athletes to unthinkable PR's.

First off bolt beat WRs without the help of a new suit. Also Micheal Johnson's record was widely considered the one of the best records in track and field many believed it would never be broken. It is also impossible for a track athlete to win 8 gold medals I would say the limit would be 5 maybe 6. Swimming is much easier to recover form hence why phelps was able to compete in so many events. That said what phelps did was still impressive just not as impressive as Bolt's achievement.

compare all you want but phelps set WR's in all but one i believe. it's one thing to run three events (with heats, etc) and set unbelievable records, it's another thing to do it 7x, no matter what the sport. PHELPS hands down!
