Russell Brown, who came into this year's USAT Outdoor Championships with the fastest 2011 time, has just failed to make it out of the semi-finals. In a race that saw the leaders come through in 64, then 2:07, Brown was outkicked by former OTC teammate Will Leer and Olympians Bernard Lagat and Lopez Lomong. Dorian Ulrey and Ben Blankenship were other non-qualifiers of note.
On the other hand, AJ Acosta looked the best he has all year, finishing second to Wheating out of heat 1 with a 3:40.28. Michael Hammond of Virginia Tech was a surprise qualifier for the final as well, running 3:40.43 to qualify automatically out of heat 1.
The biggest surprise here, however, was seeing Lagat in the 1500. It was universally assumed that Lagat had left the 1500 behind, but his return here shakes things up and leaves us wondering what he will do at Worlds.
Here are the results.
More to come soon...
Wil Leer FTW
Dorian gets pushed, shoved,...and now smoked by a 3.5 year old. Luckily there was replay for yesterday, but whats his excuse for this?
