Just came back from the 5k at Guilford. Hopper and the sopre from Darien (No idea how to spell his last name, Ostenberg?) ran 1507 and 1510 I believe. Crazy last heat
On May 10th at Guilford High School we will be hosting the Guilford Midnight Meet. This meet features the 5k under the lights with music playing during all the races. Last year we had over 120 athletes run in the 5k as well as 25 guys run under 16:30. The meet also has many other events. Many prizes and medals are given out as well. This year many of the the top boys and girls XC teams are attending. If you are interested in attending all the info is up on mysportsresults.com . No more boys teams are being accepted, but individual entries may be considered. There are 2 more spots for girls teams. Hope to see you there
I'm thinking Wynnes is going to attend the Adidas Grand Prix and go 4:03 range. Certainly one of CT's best of all time in the mile if not the best. What's the deal with the guilford distance clinic?
Chris is the man and he deserved to be at the national level. I can't even imagine doing that as a junior, it was freaky enough for me as a senior. Kid probably did go out too fast, it's definitely easy to do. Show him some respect though.
Agree tough to run sub 4:15 mile indoors and outdoors. Clark Shurtleff of Amity ran 4:16.48 at 2012 CT Open indoors and then 4:14.38 at 2012 Irv Black Invite outdoors (edged out by Wynne).
Anyone know why Henry Wynne would not run Footlocker Northeast and instead run the Pequot Thanksgiving 5 mile roadrace (he placed 2nd in 25:41).http://pequotrunners.wordpress.com/thanksgiving-day-road-race/2010-2019-results/2012-results
got a stress fracture in my femur before the regional race. Pretty bad luck but I'll be back next year
Mass does not go because they have their state meets that day. They refuse to change the date, They are however starting to show up in small numbers for Outdoor NEs.

Just got to say nothing but love today for Staples. Coming out of nowhere to make New Englands and proving themselves to be more deeper than just Wynne. Pretty decent performances out of everyone but I can't wait to see the 4 by 800's. #anoymous coward
Well anonymous coward, I guess staples is a little bit better than you thought. We going to see you on Saturday in berland?-Kurzner for life
People haven't and shouldn't discount Warde because it is the first time in about half a decade they have a solid team, and not just Harry Warnick or Matt Kane, and they run hills quite well unlike some other CT teams.Additionally they beat HK at the OceanState invitational fairly handily, so there's that too.
Shepaug over Bolton and Capital in class SThat is kind of funny! The team you'd have to worry about is St Bernard's.
barnaby made 'b' standard in ncaa prelims. no one else in canada apparently made the 'a' standard.
The C Prep team is still young. They have not really done anything to warrant 'top 10' talk yet. If this was next year, then maybe. 5 of top 6 were sopres this year. If you want to predict top in Class S, ok.If I am not mistaken only 2 teams from Class S have ever been top 6. Maybe I am too close to this, but we are not there yet.We will see in November...
the 'moby' reference is about how i look similar to the great musician.anyways, the kids at capital have a lot of maturing to do. let's see how they do this spring.
Re: 8 furlongsGood point, you have to add three seconds to account for that killer hill on the back stretch of every track...
After doing the commentary for many meets with Glastonbury T&F, I can tell you that very few individuals in the state have put as much time and effort into the sport, only to receive nothing but enjoyment in return. No, the coverage is not what it was a year or two ago, but if anything that falls on my shoulders, as Glastonbury T&F has continued to put forth an incredible effort into coverage of meets. Take a look at the Flotrack event calendar, and you will see the Connecticut is still one of the best covered states in America, if not THE best covered state in terms if high school running. The fact of the matter is that Connecticut has been extremely fortunate to have someone like Glastonbury T&F who puts so much effort into what she does, when often times many people won't even take the time to thank her.As for the fans deserving more, let me know what other states you can find that have state meets, state class meets, conference meets, and invitationals covered in one season. It would be awesome to have every single race covered, but that is not practical. If you would like to help out, i'm sure Glastonbury T&F would be very open to the idea and would love an extra set of hands to help her out delivering excellent coverage to the state. Thanks Glastonbury T&F for the unparalleled coverage, and keep up the awesome work.
Yeah I'm out for tomorrow. Anyways, best of luck to everyone running/throwing/jumping, make CT proud!
Not really sure why some people are hating on Rog right now. As for his college decision, for whatever reason he decided to go to UVA is his choice, no one elses. If he just decided he liked orange better than light blue than that's fine with me, as long as he's comfortable and confident with his college decision. I don't think it's anyones role outside of his family to question his decision. As for his running, he was a footlocker finalist. He's earned a distinction that only 40 high schoolers in the NATION do each year, and he deserves all the respect in the world for that. Make whatever comparisons you want, but just keep in mind he's in some pretty elite company with the runner's he's being compared too. That should be a compliment in itself. I think he has had an incredible high school career, can't wait to see what he does indoors, outdoors, and as he progresses as an NCAA athlete.
yo bud, watson is guaranteed 4 years at uva. More money, better academics, a committed team and a better coach is a pretty much all you need. Take a visit to Charlottesville, its gorgeous. You have absolutely no idea what else is happening at unc and what my situation was.
True the hallways and outside work for a bit, but you can't tell me an indoor facility with a long jump and pole vault pit isn't an advantage. Try running and jumping in a long jump pit that is frozen.
NFA does have a very good coach and place to jump at, but staples tends to take it in the vault from what i have seen over the past couple years.
Seems like someone has a crush on Staples. You can't leave Danbury out of the equation. Murray does a great job with his group and is always competitive. Trumbull should place well in the relays and win the 300 and 600. Bond ran the fastest time in the state at Yale. Unfortunately without an indoor facility it's tough to develop the field events. As a result Trumbull always falls a bit short. Greenwich has speed this year. Order of FCIAC should be close to this:DanburyStaplesTrumbullGreenwich
ok so harding will win. Based on times by Raph ray and tom sheerhan they have the depth needed to win. not to mention a great showing by adam polite and daundre barnaby..if simsbury can put together a good 4Xmile maybe they have a shot at winning the fciac

Staples is definitely the team to beat this year. They have a ton of depth and are strong all around in every single event with the exception of Shotput and Longjump. In the dash they have Heil, Mitchell, and Hoffman and at FCIAC's Heil should definitely score if he runs. Staples has Max Hoberman, Mitchell, and Heil under 37.0 in the 300 not to mention the amount of runners they have that have met the CIAC standard. In the 600 they have more depth than any other school with Walker Marsh who ran a 1:27 at SCC a week and a half ago and led off the 4x800 at yale which went 8:07, then Kyle Hoberman who went 1:29 as a junior aswell as Ian Teran who went 1:31 in the fieldhouse along with Mikolaj Kulis who even though is more distance oriented went 1:30 in the fieldhouse. Staples should have 4 guys sub 1:29 by States for sure. In the 1000 they have Patrick Nolan who went 2:42 at SCC, Mikolaj Kulis who went 2:44 in the fieldhouse OVER a month ago and then ofcourse Henry Wynne who went 2:35 at SCC. Wynne will dominate the Mile, especially after his winning time of 4:22 at Yale a few days ago. In the 2 Mile Wynne and Mikolaj Kulis will both definitely score if they run it. In the Relays, having Wynne as the anchor of the 4x800 gives Staples an incredible edge not to mention him also being the fastest leg of the 4x400. Staples went 8:07 already in the 4x800 and 3:27 in the 4x400 at Yale. In field events Dean Hefnway will take Pole Vault without a doubt and Staples has many Highjumpers who have jumped atleast 5-8 this season. With the amount of depth this team has Staples is definitely the team to beat not only at FCIAC'S but at the CIAC level as well.

Keith Bond ran the fasted time in the state in the 300 today. 35.67. The 4x400 also won. Throw in Bond in the 4x200 relay and that will be close to tops. Malcolm Connor should be near the top of the 600. We'll see how he does in the 800 tomorrow. All that may add up to a potential top 2 finish for Trumbull. That would be it's first trophy of any kind since they won everything in 2000. It would be nice to see.
I wish, I'll be at the Dartmouth Relays this weekend and I planned to do some snowboarding with some buds, so I don't think I can make it, no chance of it being re-scheduled?
My coach told us that the CIAC isn't letting us run at Hispanics, so no Millrose for us in any case
Lot of credit to Rog. Not an easy thing at all to go from 10th in the region to 18th in the nation, props to him on a great race and a great high school cross country career.
Haha i think we're arguing different things. Maybe he has had the best high school and college combination, but that's different than the best to ever come from the state. As far as the best ever high school and college combo, I have no idea. I really don't know enough about CT runners before the 90's to make that statement. Maybe he has, who knows.Good luck to everyone running manchester tomorrow.
The quote was actually "Donn Cabral is the greatest distance runner to come out of CT," my bad on the distance runner part. I still think its tough to say he was the greatest ever from CT though. While he was definitely one of the best, I wouldn't put him in front of Bill Rodgers. He was one of the greatest american marathoners, period. Jan Merrill won world cross twice, american record holder at 1500, 3000 and 5000 and a 12 time national champ. Also for Amby Burfoot, being one second off the American record, winning Boston, and winning Manchester 9 times is an amazing career, regardless of era. John J Kelley, in addition to winning Boston, was widely regarded as the first American road runner, and did a lot to revolutionize the sport.Cabral is a huge talent for sure, and has put together an awesome career so far. But lets not get too caught up in the present, CT has had a lot of greats come from the state who deserve respect.
Just thinking of some others, in no particular order, Amby Burfoot won the Boston marathon, Lindy Remigino won Olympic gold in the 100 and 4x1, Bruce Jenner (yes, the one on the Kardashians) won Olympic gold in the decathlon, Bill Toomney won Olympic gold in the decathlon, John J Kelley won the Boston marathon, Jerome Young was on the world record 4x4 (but later got stripped for doping), sure im forgetting a ton but thats just a few.

Anyone with predictions for xc? I say that Mueller, Rog, and Nestor look good for individuals, Darien has a good pack, tolland returns one of the best 1-2 punches, and danbury can usually throw something together teamwise.
