What was the yellow that seemed to splash off Kloos when he fell?

It looks like there is gravel inside of the rail and his hand hit some of that up in the air.

Thorne gets really close to a lot of barriers. I don't think he ever stumbled, but he did tap the lead foot on at least one barrier. I guess it works for him, though.
