Shalane to me should not be beaten by Shannon over 5km. She does not look as strong as the past. The Shalane of old would have held up. Not a knock on Jerry but the truth.

What is this all of a sudden everyone turning on Shalane? First the "should she retire" rant and now these comments when she use to be the Golden Girl. I do't even think she was venting.
She seems classy and calm as usual. She was just answering his questions honestly and was frustrated. When Anna Willard didn't win her race she cursed and basically threw a tantrum on the video and most said, ah, she's just a fighter.

I like Shalane a lot, but she no choice but to go for it if wants to win. Shannon, Kara, and Jen Rhines have all shown they can out kick girl in a tactical race. Maybe her new training has help with her kick, but that has yet to be seen.

I don't care what anyone says, at least she went for it. Sure she didn't run a record and didn't win but at least she wasn't afraid to go out fast. I'm getting kind of sick of slow tactical races, especially in a non-Olympic or championship year, not that this 5K was necessarily one of those. It was just good to see Shalane put it on the line and go out hard. Rowburry just had a lot left and put on a great kick at the end.

I wouldn't say the others ran a tactical race, I think they ran smart. A PR for Rowbury and a fast time-- that's smart racing, not tactical. Sour grapes, Shalane.

Why is she such a little B? That's a sexist comment. Her post-race feisty attitude is reminiscent of Pre's. Because he was a male, nobody called him a B. Shalene was venting as any competitor would who gave it their all, went for it, and was beaten by someone who ran a more tactical race.

I think she pretty much speaks for Galen as well.

Also, it looked to be fairly windy for the women's 5K- not the conditions for a record, yet that's waht this meet is about, fast times, so she was caught in a conundrum.
