Kathrine Switzer reflects on her life in running

Kathrine Switzer was the first woman to officially finish the Boston Marathon in 1967. Boston did not allow women to run at the time, and the race director physically attempted to remove her from the course- until Switzer's boyfriend came to her defense.

The story of that unfortunate moment at Boston just begins to describe her legacy. Switzer went on to win the NYC Marathon and was pivotal in making many running opportunities for women, including the 1984 Olympic Marathon, a reality.
