Agreed.

come on 2 years ago

she's gonna be racing all summer. i think it's probably a good thing she didn't win a race this early; means she hasn't peaked yet. i'm not saying it's a definite that she'll go on and win all over the place now, but cut her a break. she's got time.

The last 200 in 27sec wins races, but the first 200 in 27sec wins nothing The objective is to run fast in big races - not every race; some races are have developmental - part of a progression to prepare your body for race stress. Isn;t Nick Symmonds celebrated for running from the back?

Check her position at 200,400 and 600 in her last ten races. see how many races she won. see how many races she had the fastest PR in the race and finished well back. oh, i'm not worried at all but i would be if i were her coach or some of you yardbirds. you might wonder what would happen if she did run the first 2oo until she was up with the leaders, but don't strain yourselves.

The following was a response to #25... Bob Bingham

Really???? 800 runners come with a unique mix of speed and endurance and it takes years to master your speed/endurance ratio and then executing it in a race; ultimately you must train yourself to react to a wide range of race situations. Dominance is rare because of all the variables that are unique to the 800...the best runners misfire from time to time. Lastly, you've got alot to learn if you think the only strike-points in the race are 2, 4, and 600m -- great for training not for racing.

I love maggie vessey. She seemed to do fine when she ran 1:57 staying behind the lead pack for a good part of the race

mmmh 2 years ago

Bob....have you ever been wrong about anything?....I know your type...you think you are alway the smartest person in the room. Whatever AO!...actually you are the headcase worrying about it?

Bob Bingham 2 years ago

she is a total headcase who is trying to make something relatively simple into rocket science. she is strong and has a good kick. get your butt into the race in the first 200. stay with the leaders in the middle 400. use your kick and give yourself a chance to win. it doesn't take a "mental coach" to learn to do that.

yeah wtf this interview is quite good prob one of the best shes given

MikeyB 2 years ago

Duh....does she have to win every race to make you happy? She won several races last year in Europe including PRE in the US? Nick on the other hand has been a top competitor for several years now, Maggie's break out year was PRE of last year which is a week away! Some of you people I just don't understand? ......not to mention the 2nd fastest time in world last year!

SactoMan 2 years ago

#'s 7,8,9,11,12 & 19 have obviously never raced at a pro level. When you do your comments may have value. BTW #19 Symmonds, as good as he is, has yet to be #2 in the World.

This is a most refreshing interview.
If you listen carefully . . . she gives some tremendous insight!

duh 2 years ago

nick symmonds actually wins though!

MikeyB 2 years ago

some of you people need to get over yourselfs(because you not that).....Maggie is a breath of fresh air, and is a hell of a talent! She races exactly like Nick Symmmonds and don't see near criticism for him?..note: not wishing it on him, just saying it's not easy trying to be the best in the world, let a lone in the USA.

Yess! 2 years ago

I meant criticize... cause I know people are notorious for correcting someone on here

Well said "Canrun"...learn and dont critize

Boomer 2 years ago

Whatever! She can wear as much makeup as she wants. She's hot! Great job Maggie!

THANK YOU! for your response to those negative comments.
Well said!

I think people are mistaking being articulate with going on and on. This was an interview, the point is to get some insight into her life, racing etc. Going "on and on" makes for an interesting interview, and that is why I find Maggie's and Anna's interviews so interesting. The fact that they don't give the commercial answers makes it worth watching.
How do you learn if you don't analyze the situation? And come on, I think a 1:57 girl, second fastest in the world last year shouldn't just say "I didn't win because I wasn't fast enough today". Would you?

Ryan don't do it! 2 years ago

She is CRAZY.

She seems like a bit of a head case. And I do think she over analyzes pertty much eveything. Some times you just have to say, I didn' win because I wasn't fast enough. .
In some ways she reminds me of Anna Willard/Pierce the way she goes on and on over thinking.

Frack Tan 2 years ago

She is offering honest insight that might benefit anyone who gets nervous before a big race. Most athletes see their mental prep and relaxation excercises as a competitive advantage and don't discuss them publically. In recent years, USA has faired poorly in the 800m, and its possible that Maggie is discussing putting heself in a position to win....consistently....when it counts...Europe($$$), Worlds, and London2012. American men and women need innovative approaches to the 800 and maybe she in on to something -- give her a break.

i think she is so annoying

Agreed 2 years ago

She needs a mental coach for sure!

I don't get this chick! Like she really frustrates me

josh 2 years ago

too much make up for race day!

Littlenukebo 2 years ago

the first guy wasnt Mr. Ryan but the second was.

Maggie says his name at 2:27

sorry not Ryan

Now that was an interview...Ryan you seem to bring out the most in your conversations with the athletes.... when I listen to the TV interviewers, it is just kinda cut and dry..except today on TV Dwight Stones interview was outstanding with Chaunte Lowe he really got into the tecnical aspect of high jumping...
