Annual Big Three throwback, now they are Olympians, American Record Holders, and Distance Running Icons. In 2000 they were high school seniors battling for the Foot Locker National Title. Defending Champ Dathan Ritzenhein was too good over 3.1 for Alan Webb and Ryan Hall. Knowing how impressive the runners in 2nd and 3rd are makes Dathan's repeat win that much more impressive. He won by 20 seconds, the largest margin in Foot Locker history.

"He looks like a Florida hanging chad" Classic

You guys need to stop re-uploading this video and just point to where it was posted on the Internet the first time. The constant compression is making this look like it was back in the '60s

no. 1. Who cares how old Webb looks. He was still a 17 or 18yr old.

no. 2. How is running in Florida or San Diego any more a disadvantage as a kid going to a cold weather city and running.
no. 3. Ritz was doing 95mwp in high school... no wonder he is still getting injured.
no. 4. To all the haters, looking back, yes this was probably the greatest footlocker race of all time

wow this is the best race and worst commentary.....ever

haha webb 1 year ago

alan webb matured early, he looks like a grown man and he still looks the same now, and he was going bald his senior year already. Good runner but I think he matured early giving an advantage.

I still remember my thoughts about Ryan back in that race. He lived at Big Bear Lake, CA, HS is 6900 feet above sea level. In November winter had already set in (it was 13 degrees there this week). Problem was the race was in Orlando, FL. I felt he was at the same disadvantage as many runners today still suffer. Training in winter storms back east and showing up at Balboa Park, San Diego to run this weekend. It feels like a heat wave to many.

"theres ryan hall moving up into fourth...hes more of a mile type"....wrong

yeah this race wasn't all that exciting. I would have picked 1999's race to be the top of the all time footlocker list, but for some reason they kept it to just the past decade.

I am very impressed with Ritz, he gave it his all even though he was so far ahead.

I agree with OC Guy and Fghrunne. Amber Trotter should have been somewhere in top 5.

OC Guy 2 years ago

I agree with Fghrunner, and I think this should have been 2nd and Trotter should be first. There's never been a high school performance as great as that.

fghrunner 2 years ago

ritz could have lowered the course record if he kept his thumbs down

amber trotter's domination should have been on this list somewhere (probably in place of megan goethals having a good kick)...it was probably the most decisive performance in footlocker history

what did ritz say his mileage was during the season?

Who is George Torres?

I agree Webb hasn't changed much.

huh 2 years ago

i think its funny that webb looks the exactly the same as he does now, yet ritz and hall look like babies..

icld 2 years ago

Webb became the first high school indoor sub 4 minute miler a month after this race.

Epic!

All three of them went on to set American records at one distance or another. You can't ask for a more solid field, and Dathan took that race over. That's definitely an inspiring performance.

Best Race of HS 2 years ago

This was a great race wathcing 3 future pros go head to head at footlocker, its kind of funny how after that ritz and hall still battled it out in college while webb was at michigan becoming a great miler

this is not in the past decade, 2001-2010, there was no decade 0-9
Decade is 10 years bud. No, there was no year 0. But the 80's decade is from 1980-1989, 90's from 1990-1999. Even if that is somehow incorrect, this is still the past 10 years (decade) as footlocker 2010 has not yet happened.

Congratulations though in pointing out there was no year zero, I'm sure none of us knew that before.

Plus those three runners spurned the rejuvenation of XC & T&F;in the U.S.A.
Look up the word "spurn". It doesn't mean what you think it does.

Interesting how places 4-6 were not that far behind Hall and Webb. They are only seconds back, yet their lifetime PR's ended up 30-60 seconds slower than The Big Three. The Rich did indeed get Richer!

Great commentating 2 years ago

Since when is 4:47 almost 30 seconds slower than a sub 4:30

this is not in the past decade, 2001-2010, there was no decade 0-9
Clearly they arent including a year (2010) where the race hasnt happened yet. A Decade is ten years, they are counting the past 10 Foot Locker races and everyone could figure that out.

AND does anyone say the decade we all call the 90's as 1991-2000, or the 80's from 1981-1990. No, nobody does that. So that isnt going to change this decade.

Mike Krsnak 2 years ago

Ryan Hall, more of a miler - that was great.
Good to see Ritz ownin!
Ryan Hall was a miler in high school... 3:42 1500 and 4:06 1600.

Victor LeMay 2 years ago

A decade is any period of ten years. It just says "Top Moments From The Past Decade," not the current one, so yes it would be 2000 to 2009.

Michael Forman 2 years ago

The other races were more exciting. This was kind of a blow out.
That's the point, the greatest field in the history of Footlocker Nationals was assembled in this race. Ritz-Hall-Webb and Dathan Rtizenhein blows them all out of the water. Plus those three runners spurned the rejuvenation of XC & T&F;in the U.S.A.

That Florida course was garbage... and I've seen more fans come out to watch a league meet. So glad Foot Locker abandoned that place.
