that approach works well for her but maybe not for everyone, such as an 800/1500 type middle distance runner. I have to add a caveat: the middle distance runner needs speed work also. |

In college, there's not much mileage to talk about really for an 800m runner in the league of AJ, especially when you are able to come thru the 400m quite comfortably in 59, on your way to a 2:01 - 2:02 mark. Remember, she's gone sub-2 twice now and when she has she's come thru the quarter in sub-58. Make no mistake about it. She's got SPEED and STRENGTH!!! |

I'm pretty sure she does mileage as a half miler. Now to what extent she does mileage is a whole other question. But, you need a good aerobic base to be successful in the 800m. Approximately 35% of the energy produced in that race is produced aerobically |

She never said she doesn't do miles now. She is talking about middle school training and then HS. There is no mention of any of the work she is doing now. Its possible to run miles and do sprint reps. Maybe she doesnt do miles, but your reading too far into what she has said. |

another "jumped-up" quartermiler makes good! more kids should pay attention to HOW she did it though-not miles and reps but sprinting fast then racing long. great stuff! |
