The Jim Ryun Dream Mile will feature an unbelievable field of talent, with (if conditions permit) a chance of 2 to 3 runners flirting with the 4-minute mark. Lukas Verzbicas (IL) took the title last year and has a 4:03 PR, but Jantzen Oshier just won the CA state meet with a US #1 1600 of 4:00. Also in that race, Elias Gedyon ran the US #3 of 4:03. Austin Mudd (IN) has the #2 US mark, also at 4:03, and leads the nation with his 1:49 800. How will the race play out? And how fast can they run? Mudd’s speed could make that last lap really interesting. But Verzbicas is strong, fresh off setting the 2 mile national HS record of 8:29 at the Pre Classic last week. One thing’s for sure: these guys will be racing all out, going for that sub-4 barrier.
