Shalane Flanagan won another US title at the 2012 US Olympic Marathon Trials in Houston, but she says this may be one of the most meaningful due to all the work that went into the preparation. Flanagan addresses not being the clear favorite in the race and what her thoughts are about the London Olympics.

Shalane is in a difficult place, between the 10,000 meters and the marathon. She will no doubt do exceedingly well on home turf, but in London she will be going up against some of the best and deepest fields ever assembled over both distances and I suspect a Russian will get over the marathon line first and an African (Ethiopian or Kenyan) over the 10K line first. I think it will take a sub 2:20 effort for the marathon and a sub 30 for the 10K, which means Shalane will have to up her game considerably. And I suspect the cool weather (I think) will be just right for fast times. I am a huge fan of Shalane but I am also not afraid to be grounded in reality.

BUT, anything can happen. Look at Mills in 1964. Huge upset. Lopes in 1984. No one expected the oldest man in the field to get across the marathon line first.
Go Shalane, go!

She had a great run, i hope we see her tryto make the team in the 1500, 5k, and 10k. She will be one of the few athletes to successfully podium in London in 4 different events!!!

Prove who wrong? Everyone knew she was going to be on the team and win the race. She was the massive favorite.

I'm pretty sure every single person watching the race thought Shalane Flanagan was going to be on the team. Saying "Flanagan" and "underdog" in the same sentence is just insane...
