Alistair Cragg hit 'A' standards last summer in 1500, 5k, & 10k. As he prepares for the summer, his mind is focused on winning ever race he enters. Being one of the few in the world to ever beat Bekele, he knows that runners such as Bekele are only human. Anything can happen on any day.

(This interview was filmed the week of the Reebok Grand Prix meet where Alistair finished 4th in 13:25)

btw, he's right about Golf, you can do something competitive, outdoors, and not running related so it doesn't effect training.

Yes but no. 4 years ago

Ok so yes he did beat bekele before thats great and all but he beat him after his wife died and bekele kicked a whole lap early, when realizing his mistake he didnt know how to react thus Cragg took advantage of this and kicked right past him. That was more than 2 years ago though. Almost 4 right? Another thing could many people beat Bekele at his pace intensity. Basically: In a really fast race how many atheletes could really hang with Bekele? Gebreselie? or Sihine? but the Bekele would more than likely outkick both of them like he always does. Bekele can be beat in a "race" but in a non tactics race very unlikely.

okay, somehow my paragraphs got mixed around in that post. 1st should be 2nd and 2nd should be first and the T, at the bottom should have been at the very top.

After NYC it will be interesting to see how al bonces back, but if he gets in a few races and starts winning again you really can't count him out, he's a great racer and a fierce competitor. I hope that Beijing is the place where he finally shows what everyone who's ever been around him knows he has in him as a distance runner.
I think what alistair was trying to hint at in the interview by saying that it was a strange situation but that he felt that bekele was tired was that yeah bekele miscounted laps but maybe it was because he was tired. Alistair was there with two laps to go and then bekele kicked and put a little on alistair but he was tired and had he not miscounted laps then perhaps alistair would've beaten him anyway.
T,
