Alberto Salazar says Mary Cain can make the team

So far, it's been a wild ride for coach Alberto Salazar. The Nike Oregon Project coach says that Mary Cain's races have exceeded her workouts, but he still thought that 4:05 was in the books. However, it's not like Salazar's magic have brought Mary Cain to where she is now. Salazar remarks, "She's a very natural athlete. She ran 4:11 last year so she's ran six seconds faster with me this year. That's not a heck of a lot from a sophomore to a junior in high school. You should probably expect that much." He adds, "I think she's got a shot at making the [U.S. Championships] team." We'll see in Des Moines, IA.
