Nick Symmonds finally gets his global medal in 800 at Moscow World Champs 2013

After a 16 year drought, Nick Symmonds has finally brought a World Championship medal back to the United States. The five time US champ, who finished fifth at the 2012 Olympics and sixth at the 2011 World Championships, finished the 800m final in Moscow in a season's best 1:43.55, good enough for a silver medal. In 2013 Nick Symmonds has been establishing himself as somewhat of a front runner, a shift form his normal sit-and-kick tactic, and the final today would be no different. Symmonds and fellow American Duane Solomon were leading at the bell, passing 400m in 50.28, after splitting 23.35 for 200m. Symmonds and Solomon remained in the lead with 100m to go, where it became Symmonds race to lose. With 50m left, Symmonds was clear to the finish, until race favorite Mohamad Aman shifted gears and showed the field a clean pair of heels. Aman finished with the win in 1:43.33, with Symmonds hanging on for second in 1:43.55. In a recent blog Symmonds penned for Runner's World, he wrote that he imagined the "beer would taste a little sweeter, and the fishing feel that much more enjoyable with a shiny medal around [his] neck."
