Michael Westphal was diagnosed with Parkinson'™s disease in 2003. Once an elite runner, Westphal has taken up racing again as a way to temporarily alleviate his symptoms. He decided to race The Great Run Marathon in his hometown of Great Cranberry Island, Maine with the purpose of raising funds for Parkinson'™s disease through the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Westphal completed the marathon in 3:32, and earned a qualifying spot to compete in the 2016 Boston Marathon, all while raising over $34,000 for Parkinson'™s research.
