A press conference held to anounce Scotty Bauhs going pro. This is the first press conference we have seen since we started Flotrack and we think it is a great idea. All the other sports talk about going pro and have press conferences but it seems like a taboo subject and that is part of the reason that most people in our country have no idea that there are professional runners. We hope we see more of these along with press conferences when athletes sign their endorsement contracts.

and in response to "Get Over Yourself", the town of chico, including the athletic department and even the chico state president, is in love with this kid. considering this, i'm not surprised he held a press conference for the local tv stations. the crowd that came out to watch his sub 4 mile was the largest crowd i've ever seen at the stadium. |

i agree, i think some people may feel hes overrated because he went to a D2 school and developed. He only ran 14:49-14:50 as a true freshman, i'd say thats a great leap. In addition, he has never battled an injury and is always consistent (expect for the trials, but even then still run under 29). id say he has a great future ahead of him. |

correction: there is only 1 runner in D-1 that can run sub 28-min. |

i feel like the main reason people are saying he is over rated is because scott comes from a D-2 school and not a typical D-1 power house. you guys seem to disregard the fact that nick symmonds was a very talented D-2 athlete, as well as runners like Elva Dryer, etc. don't tell me that because he ran for a D-2 school that he can't run with the big boys. this man was one of the top 5 fastest american times this year and quite frankly there is only 1 runner in D-2 that can run sub 28-min for a 10k, so that argument is closed. dont even give that crap... |

Over rated? He had the 4th fastest 10k in the U.S. this year and you call him over rated? Scott is undoubtedly one of the faces of future american distance running. There are many pro runners who can't hold a torch to Scotty. Over rated? More like under rated. |

I think the real question is this: Did other sports become popular because the athletes started having press conferences or did the athletes start having press conferences because the sports were already popular for other reasons and there was a reason to justify it? I'm going with the latter. |

I love floTrack, but until the videographer puts a mike on the table in front of the runner giving the press conference, I can't really listen to press conferences on floTrack. The interviews are great, but the larger room requires better sound than available on small camera. |

Sorry. It is awesome! I was wrong to criticize the video quality/sound. I think Flotrack rules! I think I was going for constructive criticism but, I didn't get my run in today so maybe I came off kinda harsh. Nice work Scotty! You are helping the sport of XC/Track & Field (Athletics) and paving the way for those that hope to follow in your foot-steps!!! |

Hey guys, Sorry about the video quality. It was a last minute thing to get it video taped for Flotrack, my roommate stood in the corner out of the way. I wish I could get the footage from the actual t.v. camera but there are all sorts of copyright issues. Anyways next time we will make sure that the camera is closer so you can hear it. |

Coward, have you watched many of the videos on Flotrack? They do what they can. Sometimes they get videos from people who are not their normal camera people (mainly Mark and Ryan). These guys are pretty grass roots with their network. As far as I can know, this is the only site willing to post a video of a Div. II cross country star announcing his decision to go pro. Lay off. |

Please work on the sound and video. It's hard to take a sport seriously when you can't understand what the people in the video are saying and the camera man doesn't own even a $20 tripod. |

Guy has ran one of the top ten fastest 10k's for any collegiate athlete. I'm glad some of you actually follow running that doesn't just consist of Oregon runners. Congrats to Scotty, he deserves it. |
