Ducks break collegiate record in 4-mile relay
The Oregon Twilight didn't lack for drama Saturday night at Hayward Field, with the 4xMile Relay getting the collegiate record thanks to Galen Rupp's come-from-behind anchor leg.
The 4xMile was something to see, with the much of the crowd of 5,726 having left the stands to stand in the track's outer lanes, ringing the race.
It capped a long, fun day at Hayward. Oregon's top multi-event athletes -- Ashton Eaton, Aaron McVein, Marshall Ackley, Brianne Theisen and Kalindra McFadden -- all were at their best, and the Ducks are poised to pull a lot of team points out of the Pacific-10 Conference decathlon and heptathlon championships heading into the main portion of the Pac-10 meet next weeknd.
And what about Jesse Williams? The Eugene high jumper had an easy clearance at 7 feet 8 and oh-so-narrow miss on the first of his three failed attempts at 7-9 1/4.
