Really, you smoked us? ok. well first of all the mile is net downhill, not straight downhill. i'm sure you guys up in boulder have plenty of mountains to run down. there were some nice hills on that course to slow us down. after all, i ran 4:46 on the course. my pr is 4:27 so it is slow compared to a track.

On to you guys "smoking" us. well. i calculated the average mile of the elite runners in your race to be a 4:16 plus or minus 10 seconds. I calculated the 2009 macklind mile elite runners to be 4:20 plus or minus 7 seconds. So yes, you guys did beat us. good job. but as far as smoked. i'm sure you misspoke because these two distributions overlap considerably and it would be an educated guess to say that colorado runners smoke st louis runners. i don't think you could exhorbitantly state with great conifidence that this is the case. as for the 2008 macklind mile, the avg elite time was a 4:17 mile with a distribution of plus or minus 10 seconds. this even further approximates your average and standard deviation. I'm sure there are plenty of extenuating factors that make these performances relatively equal. I cannot conclusively say which race had the better performance. oh well. good luck in colorado.
