Oregon beats hail, UCLA for dual meet victory

EUGENE -- Oregon's throwers set the tone early and the Ducks came up big almost everywhere while rolling over UCLA Saturday in a men's dual meet at Hayward Field.
It figured on paper to be up for grabs, with the possibly of nothing being settled until the meet-concluding 4x400-meter relay.
But the meet, conducted amid intermittent hail showers on a chilly afternoon, didn't go to form. Instead, the Ducks dominated UCLA 94-69 before an appreciative crowd of 4,451.
The weather conditions probably convinced the Bruins they were in for a long afternoon. If the hail didn't do it, Oregon's fast start in the javelin and hammer -- both contested early in the meet -- should have.
