Once again a botched finish by the finish line crew and the race organizers in general that they didn't have communication to what was transpiring with the womens finish. They should have had spotters and radio contact. The tow old guys holding the banner were cluless to what was going on and even in the mens race they didn't have a wide enough banner and the one guy was blocking a clear race to the finish. Race Directors need to get the finish together. So many race events are like that, but Chicago was very bad and unprofessional.

Chicago Marathon - Women`s Finish

The women’s race was also arguably the most dramatic in the race’s history, pitting Adriana Pirtea of Romania, making her marathon debut, against Berhane Adere of Ethiopia. Pirtea, not looking behind, held a 30-second lead on defending champion Adere with two kilometers to go. Adere, seemingly coming out of nowhere, bridged the gap in less than 600 meters for the win, flying past a totally unaware Pirtea who was confident that victory was hers.
