Rummergirl120 - I am very well aware of who and what Alan Webb is - i.e. a miler. My point was that he doesn't want to run XC because 12k is too long would require a drastic change in his training. I get that. HOWEVER, he said he likes XC and has had success in XC, but doesn't want to run the distance. Yet, for five years, there were TWO world XC events - the 12k and the 4k. He had five years to run that 4k (a distance much more suited to his strengths vs. the 12k, and one that would require little change in his training) and yet, he never ran that 4k XC distance.

yeah man sell definately doesnt have a hope at an american record in the 8km, his 10000m pb is 28:20 something, it would take at least a 27:30 something fitness to have a shot at that time on the roads.

Tony, he isn't trying to train for the 12k. he's a miler... hence the alter in training for something that isn't his best event

No freakin way Sell could break that record. Are you nuts? The guy is great over 26.2 miles, but come on. I respect the guy but he isn't in the same league as the Webbs, Ritzs, Hall, etc. over shorter distances. Word to ya motha.

He wishes there was an 8k or even 10k because 12k is just too long and demands a change in training. uh....didn't he have 5 years to run that 4k distance and he never did?

I agree that this 8k is a perfect fit, distance wise and schedule wise for an Olympic year and given Alan's success in the past building from a strength base. Team Webb is looking smart so far.

Hall could break that record if he trained for it. 22:04 is freaking fast but I mean 59:43 half marathon is 4:33 pace.. But 22:04 for an 8k is 4:26... Sure the course is hilly but I would money down that Hall/Ritz/Webb hell even Brain Sell could break that record if they trained for it.

yes, dathan is still having lingering IT problems..anyone who has ever had this, knew that he would prolly not be racing this.....he has also pulled out of world xc.....hopefully he can get this thing healed up before serious training starts for the olympics.....this takes like 4-6 weeks usually to heal if its inflamed enough

Alan,Dathan and Ryan are on totally different ends of the spectrum. They're training for the marathon and he's training for the 1500.Eventhough they raced when they were younger,Ritz and Alan will never race again until probably after Bejing.
