Great looking runners, barrel-chested strong, cross-country type milers. California state 1600 looked much the same, except for German Fernandez. He hit 30 on nearly every split, 2:59 at the 300. If you get to see a HS 4 minute 1600 once in your coaching career you are very fortunate. Seeing the 1600/3200 double was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Grew up in NYS but coach in Cali. Great to see good races back east!
