At this year's 2009 Nike Outdoor Nationals Shelby made the fateful decision not to run the Steeple in favor of the 5K. The decision was made to avoid a schedule conflict between her High School Prom and the steeple race. She ended up taking on Emily Sisson who ran a 16:34 PR and 2nd fastest ever NON 5K. Shelby gave her a good race through 3K but fell apart trying to hang for the remainder of the race (still PR'd though). She ended up 5th or 6th. She was pretty upset by her only "bad" performance all season, breaking down in tears a little after the race. Shelby, I have only one thing to say. There's only one senior prom with all your friends and classmates. You made the right decision. Hope you had a great time!
