derrick closed in 4:18 after 9:04 3200m in that 5k. derrick would have won the 2-mile and outkicked fernandez who was tying up terribly.

Harry Is An Idiot   June 27, 2008 at 10:53pm
Harry, you're an idiot.

"Centrowitz and Forys closed in 1:57"
YEA UMM.. Centrowitz and Forys were NOWHERE NEAR what German ran. Derrick closed in 63.. UMMM Derrick was more than 20 seconds off of what German ran. It's easier to close faster when you're running slower, DUH. If German had been on the pace Centro/Forys had, of course he'd have been able to close faster because that would have been a slow pace for him! Now, Centro/Forys/Derrick would have all died going at the 8:34 pace German was going at. You're a complete idiot.. obviously it depends on the pace and German was going way faster.

Ok, here's how it goes. If you can close in 8:48, you can definitely run under 8:40. Derrick closed in 63 seconds in the 2-mile his junior year at the 2007 ihsa state track meet getting outkicked by jager's 61 final quarter. Honestly, that shows he could have closed faster than what German did. German ran a smart race, but he was tired with 800 to go and just didn't have it. Centrowitz and Forys closed in 1:57 in the same race last year. I think Derrick could have had then endurance to power down the last 100m and beat German 8:33 to 8:34. It would have been a pr and a nice race.

He has a great future ahead of him. Very eloquent speaker. We all know how dissapointed he really must have felt, but he did a great job disguising it was still able to be genuinely (or it seems) happy for Frernandez and the others. Great looking guy too

13:55 is "equal" to 8:43 according to Daniels VDOT & he ran that in April. I think Derrick could've got under 8:40, but he never showed the speed to go as quick as Fernandez did. It's too bad he got mono, but he'll be back. It will be fun watching both of these guys run in the future. You never know, they could be better than Webb, Hall & Ritz.

Wait ....   June 22, 2008 at 1:16am
he ran the last 3200m in 8:48 not the last 2 miles. His 3200 would convert to around ~8:52 for 2 miles. wich is still pretty darn good after running 1600m+200m. But if you think about it its pretty tough to lower your time when you'r running that fast. I mean German only lowered his time by 4 sec. when he had fresh legs and not running a 4 min 1600m. So Derrick would have had trouble lowering his 2 mile by 18 sec to match German. But we will never know how the race would have ended up if they raced each oher.

And he also lies about his "predictions", he didn't really even make any predictions before the race that he publicly announced.

Easy to make predictions AFTER the race!
Yea right he could have stayed with German.

Everybody puts on some weight when they stop running. If CD was in this race, I don't know who wins, but I guarantee it would have been a dogfight.

much better speaker than German- dont forget he ran the last 2 miles of his 5k @ arcadia in 8:48, so he basically would have finished 4th in this race after having already run a mile + 200m
