Probably the most fun interview I've heard. Both these Olympians communicate well and smoothly. Nick really understands where he is at, at this moment in time. Very good of him to recognize the coaching and what it has meant to him. Very impressive to hear him differentiate the difference between knowing you have the potential vs. the reality of now is the time. Many blessings to both these athletes-America can be very proud of both.

even if you wanna say it was a slow race, which i dont think it was THAT slow...look at how much nick and andrew had left. I'm not saying they will go 1:39, but they can definately go faster. Remember, the games are when they are peaking.

I <3 Nick   July 2, 2008 at 6:11am
Saw him get his ass handed to him in the Pre meet. Then I knew he would pull through. He's by far the hottest olympian i have ever seen. Even when he is making the pain face at the end of a race he's sexy. Boys take note on this man.

Hard to believe that NBC, USA Network, Comcast, Eugene '08, USA T&F, etc. haven't posted the 800 final anywhere.

Finally found the Eugene '08 US Olympic Trials - Men's 800 Final on a local Idaho TV site at:

Great team if you're an Oregon fan. But they have to be the slowest trio the US has ever sent to an Olympics.

Just saw the press conference. How great was Wheating's validation of Symmonds' response when asked about who was around him when he broke out of the box. Not only are these guys good, but they all seem to be very cool and approachable. There's no doubt that they're confident, but virtually no hint of arrogance...very refreshing!

I wish I had the smarts to have run the way Symmonds and Wheating run this event. I was a 'go out and try to hang on' guy. But in retrospect, these guys know themselves and theis capabilities and have turned it into their advantage. I'm so happy for this threesome and am proud to have them representing the US. Let's hope for a good showing at the games!

Check the splits on that race - Symmonds & Wheating were the most even in the field!! Some call it cowardly - but efficient splits are the most effective strategy for racing PRs. In my book, learning to race your best is much tougher than just racing with the leaders and hoping things pan out for you!

Sit and kick is the only way you can win an 800. If try to lead in an 800 the first 400 to 600 meters in an elite race, you will lose. You obviously haven't watch many 800 races.
