- See Less - Not everyone can say they’re the second fastest woman in American history.
The Northern native sprinkles her speech with a distinctly Midwestern accent when she speaks honestly and earnestly about her collegiate struggles with eating problems. Upon sustaining multiple injuries and surmounting her eating problem, Goucher graduated from the University of Colorado in 2001, leaving a legacy of becoming the NCAA Outdoor Champion in the 3000m and 5000m, the NCAA Cross Country Champion and a 5000m Olympic Finalist, placing eighth.
Her mighty comeback continued as she finished second in the 5K at the USATF Outdoor Championships in 2006. She set personal records on the international level and ran the World “A” Standard in the 1500m, 5000m and 1000m. Her third place finish in the 3000m at the 2006 IAFF World Cup and her 10k time ranks her the second fastest American woman of all time.
Goucher continued setting records as she reigned over the Great North Run with a time of 1:06.57, a record that earned her the title of the fastest woman’s half-marathoner of the year and set a new American best time.
The record-setting, obstacle-dominating success story moved to Oregon with her husband – American runner Adam Goucher – and continues to be coached by Alberto Salazar.

i agree with Daniel Perez!
and i have kara's jacket! :)
Watching this interview after the Olympic Games is just so much more insightful as everything Kara Goucher says makes so much more sense. The Flotrack person that interviewed Goucher did and outstanding job getting nugget after nugget of good information. I suspect once Shalane Flanagan runs the 10K under thirty minutes, Mrs. Goucher is going to do it as well. Just you watch.
Hey Kara Great Job In the Olympics. I Felt was there every step of the way even thouht I was watching from California I was rooting for ya even thought u did not medal you did Great plus you are young so it will happen just keep pushing cause we are all watching. Tell Adam dont stop, Cause I know he can do it plus u Love it so.. We believe
Ok But At Least Learn To Spell June 30, 2008 at 3:23pm
It is spelled "notoriety" BTW, and if you consult a dictionary you might find that it is not exactly the appropriate noun for your intent. ("Notorious" = "known widely and regarded unfavorably.") If you really helped her get the recent stories in the magazines that is great, but I am suspicious of your credentials. I will take a look at your web site and see what you have to say about yourself, but at the moment I think you are a cheeseball.
what do you have against publicists? I am running fan too. Not just a publicist. Does my helping Kara receive more notariety upset you in some way? Maybe you need to get a publicist to help put a spin on your negative attitude about the marketing of professional athletes in today's media. Did you see the NBCOympics.com article on Kara? Or the Runner's World cover story? You consider that "unecessary?" That's what having a publicist does. That's why you don't see more press on other athletes outside the world of running, FYI "Kara fan."
The things that makes Kara so special is her unbridled enthusiasm and the willingness to show it. The joy and excitement she showed at the World's and then again today as she shared her friend's qualifying for the Olympics is rare with professional athletes.
to all the haters...you guys are obviously just jealus of Kara she's obviously better than YOU!
Kara's the best! and i love all her interviews on flotrack!!
Excellent work. Kara's so refreshingly, a real boon for American distance running. Seeing her publicist posting on here makes me nauseus, but...so it goes, I guess.
I am Hal Lifson, Kara and Adam's publicist. She is the brightest face of the Olympics this summer and her spirit, charm, beauty, and integrity define what these games are all about. Now, there is a GREAT article on Kara by NBC Olympics sports writer Joe Battaglia on the NBCOlympics.com web site called "Kara Goucher IT Depends" a MUST read for all her fans. See my web site, HalLifson.com for more info on Kara under "PR Clients." Look for a lot more KARA GOUCHER publicity on its way this Summer and Fall!! She is the new face of Women's Distance Running in America! Hey, gossip columnist LIZ SMITH of the NY POST called Kara "The Julia Roberts of Track and Field!" She's not wrong!
She's honest, inspiring, extremely confident, hilarious, gorgeous, and has such a cute child-like innocence about her. Her comment about Neil Diamond at Atlanta was priceless. She's truly a Flotrack all-star. I think Mark should make sure and show this video to Adam because even Adam would say "What a great video! Damn that girl's awesome".
Great Interview! You asked great questions and don't listen to the other guy I LOVE all the Kara Goucher interviews; if anything there should be more of her on this site!!
its somewhat ridiculous that there are 19 interviews of kara goucher on this site and there always seems to be issues with getting interviews with field event performers. with so many fans watching including myself I would hope that some variability would be available in the interviews aside from distance runners. we get it mark, you wanna get with kara, get over it
ok, i had to check it out after kara said that. she was the only person to not qualify out of her 8-person heat, but she had some company from the other heat. Jennifer Kramer and Genevieve Graff-Ermeling finished 8th and 9th out of 9, both with slower times, than kara. Interesting to compare the company she keeps, then and now.
Kara Goucher in her Post Olympic Trials Interview talks about how the transition from 2004 to 2008 has been, how her training with alberto has progressed and the feeling on becoming an olympian. June 28, 2008
