We've got two winners found amongst the hundreds of entries from the 1st part of the contest. With an incredible prediction time of, sure enough, 2:11.59 -- Scot Sedley takes home one of two winning spots. The second spot goes to Rhonda Riley with a prediction time of 2:11.56. Great job to the both of you, you may each now be referred to as official, 'Marathon Predictor's'. Two entries off by a total of 3 seconds. It doesn't get much more spot on than that. (Scot, feel free to throw yourself a party.)

Several other notables included Tim Jeffrys - 2:12.05, James 2:11.04, Sean Bowen - 2:12.15, Nutmeg Tegels - 2:12.12, Jon Bryant 2:12.16, Tim Chambers - 2:11.47, Joe Gremillion 2:11:52,
Josh Turan 2:11.32.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Men's Olympic Marathon contest.

@ Disappointed Runner   August 17, 2008 at 4:46pm
As a Eugenean, it's UO, not OU.

And with your train of thought, are you going to blame Tyson Gay's hamstring injury and consequent struggles at the Olympics because he was in Eugene (for the Trials), and somehow being in Eugene/UO is the reason for runners' problems? I know you specified distance runners, but putting blame on a city/college is unfair, to say the least.

@disapointed American: or should these guys head to NC were a bronze medallist is training? And, oh yeah, is there a worlds bronze medallist training with Nike, who you cheered on last year? And not to mention a double worldchampion?

How many medals won the Kenyans, yet? And for your information... getting into Fort Knox is probably easier than to train with the Ethiopan squad. How do I know? Got some connections with an influencial agency,
Get real... these guys are training their a** off. They need some support not your ****.

If you are so tired of American distance running, than how about you step up and toe the line with these guys....or are you too busy running your 3+ hour marathons? Show a little respect for the guys who put themselves out there and train 120+ miles a week to represent your country.
Oh, and figure out how to spell disappointed.

Disapointed American   August 17, 2008 at 1:31pm
I have lost all faith in American Distance runners after that embarrassment that was the 1500 semis...Ritz, Hall, Goucher(yes I think a visit to Kenya could revive him), Lagat, Manzano, Rupp, etc. etc. need to get there butts out of the OU campus, out of Nike's pockets and over to Africa to see how the real runners are training...I am sick of American distance guys being schooled every Olympics...so Dathan if you get top 5 great, but based on how the rest of your team mates have performed, 2:17:45

Also, there is a problem with the link on the main page. When you click on the link to the video on the right hand side, under Flotrack Activity Board, you just return to the same page. And if you click on the link just to the right of the image of Tiffany Ross-Williams, you get to the Intro video, but that doesn't provide a link to this Part I video.

And by the way, this is a wonderful video (a bit funny when we are told Dathan is walking) and I look forward to what will follow.

Yes, I realized this morning, the end of the video has the wrong time. I'll fix it later today. Thanks for the heads up!

At the end of the video, you have the date and or time completely wrong. The race is run on August 24, at 7:30 AM, BEIJING TIME. For the United States, that translates to August 23, 7:30 PM.

As for the time, so much turns on the weather, but the forecast doesn't look half-bad, so 2:10:08 (and a top six finish, and perhaps a medal).

Ritz, Heating Up, Part 1 & Contest

Uploaded By: kevind
Dathan Ritzenhein has been working overtime in Eugene the past 10 months getting ready for what ultimately will come down to the most grueling of Olympic Marathons.

On August 24th, at 7:30PM EST, Dathan will set out to run against the worlds best. To prepare for Beijing's heat and humidity, which is expected to play a large factor in the race, Ritz has been connecting heat-acclimation sessions inside a climate chamber at the University of Oregon with workouts along Lorane Highway and the Rexius / Pre's Trail in Eugene.

Over this series we caught up with Dathan inside the UO Human Physiology Department for his last climate chamber session, and with coach Brad Hudson, before both left for China.

With each part of this series, we will be giving away 2 autographed copies of Brad Hudsons new book, Run Faster, which came out on 7/29. With each video, a question relating to Dathan's future Olympic Marathon performance will be asked. For the first video, the question is as follows:

What will Dathan's final time be in the Olympic Marathon?

You should respond in the following format H:MM.SS.
If, DNF, you must also add which mile it occurred on

Contest Notes:
- You must be logged into Flotrack to be eligible
- If there are the same responses entered by viewers, the tie will go to the first responder.
- Each individual can only win one time
- You may change your answers (be deleting and entering new comments) as often as you'd like, so long as they are entered before the deadline below
- Contest responses need to be in by 4:00 PM EST on Saturday, August 23.
