It also depends on how your friend told him he wasn't coming. If your friend kept telling him he was going there (or that he PROBABLY was) and then changed his mind... that sucks for the coach. Recruits need to learn to say "no" right away. That way the coach isn't wasting his resources or time. If the recruit isn't sure... then say "maybe" but don't lead the coach on.

Not saying Smith didn't yell at your friend but an experienced coach wouldn't yell for no reason... just a thought.

i dont really believe that. i had a friend that looked at the school too and when he didn't go he said dave was really supportive of his decision.

I have a friend who was recruited by him and when he told dave he wasn;t coming, dave yelled at him and made me feel awfull... so when he says he doesn't take it personally thats a lie for sure...

Dave Smith, Oklahoma State

Dave Smith had one of the top xc recruiting classes in the country this past year with Fernandez, Lowe, Prentice, and transfer John Kosgei. Dave talks about recruiting, what makes it difficult and what makes it rewarding.

Dave's Oklahoma State Cowboys will be one of the top teams compete at next week's NCAA Championship that will be held in Terre Haute, Indiana on Mon, November 24th at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
