Keri Molt, the #7 runner ran a 18:37 5k at Woodward Park!! The #7..! That time would be good enough to be the #1 on MANY teams or at LEAST in the top 3 (I believe in the top 3 on almost every team except teams like Dana Hills and Torrey Pines).

Talk about depth!! They probably have around 25 girls who can break 6 in the mile.

I'm definitely excited for Wednesday.

That is also a good point about their JV team. Courtney Wilson, who is their number 8 runner, runs an 18:42 at Mt. Sac. THEIR NUMBER 8 RUNNER!!! I think they also had a couple of other JV girls under 19 at Mt. Sac as well.

SAUGUS GIRLS = INSANE!!!

And so INCREDIBLY DEEP, their JV team would still be a VERY VERY good team (quite possibly top 20 in California, and we all know how much depth CA has)

For Track; here is the road to the State Meet for CIF Southern Section: Top 3 in League -> CIF Prelims -> CIF Finals -> Masters ->State Prelims (depending on event) -> State Finals

there is no Prelims at state for 3200 meters, instead the bar for qualifying to state from Masters is much more difficult. For instance, I ran 9:13 in Southern Section Masters and didn't qualify for the State Meet; however the bar is based on previous year's performances.

California has too many high schools to have just one giant state meet. So instead there are qualifying races to make it to state that involve rounds in your Section, Southern Section which is by far the largest in terms of number of schools is called CIF Southern Section. First, you must qualify a spot to your Section prelims by placing high enough in your League. After Prelims you have Finals. For Southern Section, this is called CIF Finals at Mt. Sac. Only the top teams from finals are permitted to compete in the California State Meet where schools from other section finals come together. Yea, it's a lot of racing, and track is even worse.

Rene Paragas, Saugus HS

Uploaded By: David Williams

Rene Paragas is the coach of the #1 high school girl's team in the US. This past weekend he lead his girls to another state title, setting a new course record at Woodward Park. With less than a week to go, Saugus is preparing to win a national team title at NXN, but will have to go through some tough teams like NY's Fayetteville Manlius. Flotrack's David Williams sat down with him the week of CIF Finals.
