Well, German was listening to T-Payne and Lil' Wayne, which in my opinion is the worst kind of rap/hiphop/music ever made. Besides, Colby said he had AC/DC on his ipod, so he listens to more than just rap.
They Are Just Ipods... November 7, 2008 at 10:09pm
While I personally dont run with an ipod very often, I think they are fine. That is a long time out running. my team talks usually but we run(no pun intended) out of topics eventually.
though if your being interviewed it would seem polite to turn them off for a second or two
seriously guys? obviously i was being sarcastic to the numerous previous statements about german and colby wearing iPods. i sometimes wear an ipod while i run
this is what Toni Reavis did in the early eighties, with a tape record jogging a long with Bill Rodgers.... check out http://www.runnerville.com (Toni&Matt show)
So, this video should have been titled "interview with the freshmen of OK State." OK, Vail and another couple guys might not have been there, but why nothing from Chirchir or Kosgei, or the other guys who have made this team so good.
"long run after a day of recovery", finally someone that understands the concept of recovery, I agree with the pace you mentioned, my only concern was the OSU guys running that pace for a long run the day after a race, if they had taken Sun as an easy recovery day and then ran their long run at sub 6min pace it would have made more sense to me
The top guys on my team run sub 6 for 20 miles - its really not that big of a deal. We do our long run on Monday though to get a day of recovery in, but 6:20 is still a pretty average pace, even for me and I'm not even that fast. Bernard Lagat is from my school - he said he doesn't even count mileage that is over 5:30 pace, and his tempos are under 5:00. That is how elite runners do it - 6:20 is far from elite.
for your sake I hope your measurements on your long run routes are short (obviously they are!!!) or why were you not in Beijing competing because only an elite/world class runner would consider running 6min pace on a training run, come on get real
im in high school and even i do a 6min average for my 12mile long runs and that is just relaxing. im sure at there level that 620 for 14.5 isnt that bad.
wow
i didnt say i disliked ok state,
i didnt say anything bad.
alli asked was to get more in depth behind the scene
coverage on some other up and coming teams. like portland, alabama, etc.
we all know oregon and ok state are dominant, and we see a lot of them.
but to call me B**** cause i asked, isnt that a little overboard?
the belief after a hard run/race to do a long runto aid in blood flow to legs is hogwash!!!, the only thing to do the day after a race or workout is recover and a long run at that pace for these runners is not recovery
my point was for a sub 13/sub 27 guy recovery is around 6:00-6:20 pace and correct me if I am wrong but the OSU runners are nowhere near these times so therefore they are running too fast for a recovery run, why not one or two real easy runs on Sun and then do the longer steady run on Mon
I think the belief for a long run after a hard effort/race is that it helps improve blood flow to the legs, therefore increasing recovery or something in that sense. Anyone feel free to correct me.
Portland by the way is a legit contender, they're currently ranked fourth right now and Kinsella and Kipchumba are leading a good team. Also there's not a lot on Portland either.
6:20 pace if you are sub 13/sub 27 guy???? are you serious?? that is ridiculous. if you can run 6:20 as a D1 runner then there is an issue. do some research on how fast some of the world's best do their runs. when you are in the kind of shape these guys are in, sub 6:00 feels like a jog once you get going. just as some people are faster than others....some people's training paces are faster than others. pretty simple thing to grasp
14.5 miles at 6:20 and faster pace the day after race, doesn't appear to be a recovery run to me, why wouldn't they do a shorter recovery run the day after the race and the long run on Mon, makes more sense, I can never understand why these college/university coaches get there athletes to do a long run the day after a race, even if it is so called easy pace and there is no way these guys were running easy at this pace, unless they are all sub13 5k and sub 27 10k runners that pace is no where near recovery for a 14.5 mile run
hear about someone else like portland? theres not a lot on okstate on flotrack at all, add that to the fact that theyre better than portland and I would say they're covering the right teams
Awesome video. No one else does this stuff great job flotrack! And for all of you hating on the ipods get a life. Everyone in the modern world has ipod's i'm surprised they don't text while running. Who cares let them do what they do. Besides one of my former teammates was so dull and lame that I wish I had an Ipod for those 13 miles with him!!!
I like the fact that Flotrack has been following OSU around. I'd love to see you guys follow a couple of the top teams all season so we can see the progress. This also makes it easier for someone like me to learn all the characters.
this is just a jog/stroll for German! He could go on for miles with no stress or effort. Hope the ipods are used for listening to encouragement from their coach Dave Smith, instucting, motivating, pushing them etc. German needs to be worked harder or he may get bored and too laid back.
not social...im sorry i didn't know these kids were being critiqued on how well they talk to each other while running. and get hit by a car....on that road...with the closest car being their coach follwing along side them?? are you serious???
In a recent study, running with music that you don't have to hold with your hands raises your neural impulses which fires the neurons quicker, which in turn creates the "running High" caused by endorphins. It also makes a runner 30 times more efficient, why do you think you can't wear music in races. No namer, get your facts straight before you call out a # 2 ranked team in the country.
first off, how does an ipod make you run slower?? i would like to see the proof behind that
second, who cares if they run with music. they are running upwards of 2 hours, maybe they like to jam out. is it really that big of a deal.
third, at some track meets they play music while races are being run...look at all the meets from europe that flotrack covered. those were awesome with the music
Every Sunday morning, teams of runners gather for one of the most important practices of the week.....the Sunday Long Run. We followed along the #2 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys on their Sunday Long Run to see what it was like and where they ran. This run was the day after the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree. Even I ran! Get out there for that long run!!
Edit: I SPY THE DH
though if your being interviewed it would seem polite to turn them off for a second or two

Anyone know the song at the start?
Pdx: how is these roads crap?

they'll learn.

p.s. Nice freaking i-pod German.
Great Job you and Flotrack are doing! Keep it up.
