German, great interview and am really enjoying following you and your teammates this year, and look forward to seeing you guys at the regional meet in Stillwater this coming Saturday. I think this is the year for your team at the NCAAs if everyone can stay healthy.

Keep the quiet confidence, and thankful approach. You are a great role model for the sport and am glad you decided to run at my alma mater where I had the opportunity to run as well. I wish I had a dime for every time I circled the track in the background. Take care, and thanks again for choosing Oklahoma State.
Regards,
Mike

German watch out for those dang tornadoes in the midwest. I grew up in the bay area, then moved to Wichita, KS. I now live in Mooresville, NC. The weather in your region can be pretty hairy sometimes. Good luck in X Country, I saw you run at the Nike Nationals, and also set the new National 2 mile record.

This is a man everyone. German is the future of this sport. He will break many records. Here's my favorite quote, "I like a challenge. It's what keeps me going." He is going to do great things and so is Oklahoma State. I really hope that they do well and so does German. I think it would be great for the sport to see some other college besides Oregon to win the National Title. Go and rock regionals/nationals German!!!!!!

Although I disagree with him correcting your grammer, I think what the teacher was saying is that making a remark about someone's intelligence when there is no ground for it is a move. So shut the F up!!!!

In response to 4th Grade Teacher

Seeing as how I have the mental capacity of a puppy, I know my type.
By the way, just so you know, if you're punctuating a quote within a sentece the punctuation should be within the quotation marks. Otherwise, punctuate the sentence as a whole. From grammarbook.com:
Put a punctuation mark within closing quotation marks when the punctuation applies to the quotation itself and outside when it applies to the whole sentence.
Let's just hope the 4th grade students you're teaching become smarter than you, me, and Mr. Fernandez.

In response to Huh?

"Hope he stays healthy....he has to turn pro."
What the fuq is this. You cannot fix a run-on sentence by adding four dots in a row. Try "I hope he stays healthy. He has to turn pro."
"He's picked the right school"
Any reason for the contraction? He already picked the school. It's passed tense. Try " He picked the right school."
"he seems like he has the mental capacity of a kitten!!!!
Do you get paid by how many times you use the word "he"?
Try "he seems to have the mental capacity of a kitten."
Thus, if you choose to make a written remark about someone's mental capacity, it would be best to make sure you do not have the writing skills of a 4th grader.

Did Lanana talk to this kid? Why is this guy not running for Lanana? Forget the Oregon bashing, Lanana have proven that he is now (now that McDonald has retired) the best college coach. Lanana could make this kid a world class athlete.

I think he's getting third at nationals, behind Chelanga and Rupp. That said, this dood is way faster than I'll ever be, so he can say whatever he wants. Either way, astonishingly fast...nobody can argue with that.

Hey WTF! I said he's the best thing to come along in a while, but there are lots of guys running 13:20. Luckily, only 3 each from the East African countries go to the Olympics. You didn't read my second post showing that 13:20 does indeed win the Olympics on ocassion.

I think what people are saying aboutk his sub 13:20 goal is that it isnt high enough. God, I reckon he'll be 13:2x.xx this year at least. I think, given his potential and the rate he's improving, will have a shot at a sub 27 10km if he gets the opportunity by his senior year.

Ok. From 2004 back to 1972 the Olympic gold medal times were: 13:15; 13:35; 13:07; 13:12; 13:11; 13:05; 13:20; 13:24; 13:26. So it is indeed do-able as long as he has the strength to run the rounds, AND a blistering kick! And I was never saying he's anything less than one of the brightest stars to come along since...Ryan, Dathan, Webb...Pre?

if he can stay healthy, the sky's the limit. his two mile record converts to a 13:39 5k so sub 13:20 should be no problem in the next four years.

Fantastic interview. German speaks with his heart. His authenticity really shines through. I think I speak for a lot of us when I say it's going to be a blast watching him meet and exceed his individual and team goals over the next few years. No doubt we will see him in 2012.

German Fernandez, OK State

German Fernandez has been running as not only one of the top freshman of the year, but also one of the top NCAA athletes of the year so far. He just came off of an individual and team Big 12 title this past weekend and will now look forward to the NCAA Regional and National meets.

This interview was done a few weeks back and German talks about last year's 2 mile record, his goals for this year and the future, and how the team is hoping to win Big 12 and NCAA titles. Big 12s can be checked off that list....

Check out his OK State bio HERE.
