Adam has been my favorite runner ever since high school. I am so glad to hear him say that his marriage is strong and that he is able to have running in the proper balance in life. I can't wait to see what he will do when he's 100%. I think his best running accomplishments are still ahead as long as he approaches his training/racing with patience.

Gouch - Work on the 5K for a couple of years, then go for the 10K in 2012. You are a trememdous strength runner which better suits you for the 10K than the marathon. If it's a warm and humid race, wouldn't it be better to race the 10K than the marathon (10K plus 20 more miles) ? Anyway, best wishes during your training for 2012.

For 4sstar, Just because someone speaks their opinion and it is not a compliment does not mean they are hating. Recent results speak for themselves.

This is for "not-hating"...but is it just me or is Haile 35? Which is the peak for marathon age? Sounds like you're hating?

I agree with Not Hating. . . there comes a time when you have to reassess goals, plans. . . Could this be his time? For whatever reasons; a multitude of reasons. There comes a time when it all just sounds like whining.

adam goucher is one of my all time faves. i remember when he blitzed FL nationals and i have been a fan ever since. i gotta say, though, he is getting a little old to do all those things that haven't happened in his "prime"...but i will be there rooting for him. he needs to ask his boy alan culp what happens to your body after 34...

Adam, my wife and I work in similar fields of science. She has just gotten not one, but TWO, promotions in the past couple of months. She is climbing the ladder very fast and making a crapload more money than me....yet i have a PHD and she has an MS. I am doing well, but come on, what she's getting is crazy (even though she totally deserves it). I am very happy for her, but of course I understand the little bit of envy that Adam says he feels in watching his wife succeed in something that he is also trying to succeed in. Good interview to get Adam to open up about those honest feelings. And he's right, it is not a bad thing to feel that little sting of envy. It can serve as great motivation to furhter your own success.

What does he mean by he has to figure it out. It's not rocket science it's running. Get real. You run for a living which is great but come on. Most people would love to be able to do their sport and earn a living with it.

too much emotinoal stuff for an oLympic year-it is very hard to deal with all those things. Your head isn't clear-and your body follows...I'm sure you'll be stronger than ever soon enough-the talent never leaves-all the best.

It's great that he was willing to be so open. Never saw that side of him before.
Best of luck to him -- hope he achieves every one of his goals.

Great interview, I really enjoy to see the runner away from running. we all know what training is like. But its just nice to see the other emotional side of them, to know that they are still human.

And if he wants to break the american record in the 10k then he will need to roll under 13 in the 5k.. Which I totall still think he can do.

great interview... i really enjoy the more personal questions. it helps to see a different side of the athletes and you learn more about the athlete as a person and not just a runner. You can just see what gouchers been going through lately and i really hope the best for him in the future.

Mark, easy on the relationship questions. One is ok, don't pursue it. Other than that great interview. Get back at it ADAM, get back at it.
