What is the tie breaking rule that put Rice ahead of Baylor in the South Central? Is it Because their number 1 runner finished first?

More Rules   November 15, 2008 at 11:47pm
Washington didn't have a win. Even though they tied cal at pac 10, the ncaa tie-breaker rule goes to the team with the best 3 out of 5 when matching each 1-5 scorer. Cal beat washington 3-2 when applying the rule. so, the push rule is used in west early on in the selection process. in the case, west does get 7 in.

Rules Guy, you can use the push rule twice if you need to in the meet. You are just not allowed to use the push rule twice in a REGION. But I don't believe the Calculator is completely right. Also your other thought on the girls' side with Stony Brook pushing BC in; you can use the push rule for the last two spots as long as both teams are getting in the meet, which is the case here. If they were saying Stony Brook was pushing BC in to the final spot and Stony Brook not making the meet, that would be wrong. Also I believe that Washington on the men's side does have a win and will get in own their own merit in the 12th spot. So the push rule will not be used in the west. This will in turn limit the west to sending only 6 and not 7 as Cal Poly will be left at home because they ran out of spots. Again speculation, but I think that will be the case.

In your womens recap you can't use the pusher rule for the 13th at-large spot. Check the rules. Stoneybook and BC can't be in based on what you said.

This selection system is so messed up. UW had zero wins and they still got in. A better system would be to just let Alan Webb decide who gets in.
