In some horrible conditions, you guys did a great job in running the meet. You made the right call on the medal ceremony. While every kid that performed well deserved to be recognized, the conditions made it dangerous for the kids. Not every team / individual had a bus to stay warm in. Our kids were in a partially heated tent but kids were still extrememly cold after being outside for over 3 hours. Thanks again for a great event - too bad we didn't have Sunday's weather.

A SMART decision to eliminate the individual awards ceremony and give them in the chute.

Wind chill temperatures can create a serious issue after racing and hypothermia would have been far worse than not having an individual awards ceremony. It was a very sound call on the Meet Director's part.
A well run meet, in my opinion and I'll be back next year.

Our decision to present awards in the chute instead of on stage for the races was based on the weather conditions. Our original plan was to have the stage at the finish line and present everything there. The individual awards were to be presented after each races results were compiled. The team awards were to be presented at 3:00 on the stage. With the wind chill at 9 degrees when the meet started, we decided to present the awards in chute so the athletes could get to their vehicles/busses etc as soon as possible after each race rather than having them exposed to the elements for an extended period of time. With the wind exposure on the hillside at the finish line, we decided to park the stage at the pavilion where there was a windbreak during the team awards. In hindsight I should have called the top eight up to the stage during the team awards. We had to make a lot of adaptations, including some on the fly that morning. I apologize for the the inconvenience and disappointment.

Hi, My name is Mike Payne, my son Steven Payne ran in the Cross Country primary 2K run on 12/6/08 and he came in first place overall. I am very disappointed with the outcome of the meet. Me and my family traveled 614 miles to watch my son and other kids run. My son came in first place overall and we were expecting an award ceromony, we are very disappointed with your decision to cancel the ceromony. Like I said earlier that we traveled 614 miles only to have it cancelled. My son was very sad by this decision and this is no way to treat children especially after they trained so hard for this meet. Please could you explain why the award ceromony was cancelled. I can be reached at 908-316-7033, or you can email me at . Thanking you in advance for your time and consideration in the above matter. I look forward to hear from you soon.
