Yet their 2 mile was 9:47, so I guess it was a tactical race. Most cross country races that I've seen where records are broken, are started with a very fast first mile. Just a bit different from track and field.

4:47 seems pretty slow for the first mile of a national race. I would have expected something under 4:40.

Hey i'm from ethiopia, and it wouldn't surprise me that he is older than he says. Many people from Ethiopia grow up in the villages and rural areas where the system of birth certificates and birthdays are non-exisitent. My dad's birthday on his certificate is almost 7 years different from his actually age. His birthday say Jan 1st, just a random birthdate (that happens to be on New Year's) That's why Solomon could easily have a different birthdate/year then what he says he is.

Any of you people who have never met solomon and say he is 20 are rediculous. Solomon is probably the nicest person i know and he acts just like any senior going to be a freshman. I got a chance to spend a lot of time with him this summer, and he really gets upset when people question it. So everyone stop talking about his age and look at what he has accomplished

solomon haile will be attending arkansas for college, so of course he has been cleared by the NCAA to compete at the next level. he is only 18 still going on 19, there have been numerous investigations for his case. they have recovered his birth certificate and he was proven eligible for the 2008 XC season in July 2008. he is not 20 years old, cut the crap.

Those singlets are absurd. Go back to the old style where the entire singlet is the team color and the cut does't look like a t-shirt with the sleeves ripped off.

How is it that he is able to run a 1:08 half marathon and not be able to run a faster 5k. Was he jogging? IMO yes he was just trying to make it seem harder than it really was

it is really tough to compare different years even different races, who knows what would have happened had Haile run with last years group...that being said, i do think that last years group was more talented than maybe any other group to run at Footlocker

they gave it a tie...both got a medal and all american status...

I'm thinking Reed Connor'll be this year's Fernandez. Not as good, but definitely the top gun that no one takes seriously until he blasts some incredible time. Oh wait, he already ran 8:54 for 3200m in cross country season...

no the ncaa will not clear him if he does not have the documents to prove his age. if he does then there should be no problem. only time will time on this one people.

We have a reason to feel a little skeptical about haile. First of all, last year he was entered in a couple of road races as a 20 year old. Why is that? I doubt it was his sister mixing up ethiopian years with our years! Secondly, even after all of this contreversy he still cant truly verify his age with documents. Bottom line is, he needed to prove to us that he is truly 3 years younger then stated in the road races but that hasnt happened. So, call me a hater but until he verifies his age, I HAVE THE RIGHT TO FEEL SKEPTICAL.
