You are all horrible quit judging people you don't know. Allie is most definitely not anorexic she has a disorder, she is one of the sweetest people I know and is just a very hard worker.

you people are horrible. i have met allie and ran in many races with her, she is amazing. she is petite she is little and she runs, runners tend to be on the skinny side. so people need to shut up and get over it, she is an amazing runner and she could beat any one of you people talking crap.

Good luck allie!

Allie, What do we call you now? Little Big Girl! She-Pre! You really took them to school this season. Make a call to the University of Oregon Athletic Director's office and talk to Coach Vin.Trust me, he'll make time for you. Go visit the school, talk to the girls on the team. I think you'll really like it there.
"A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more. Nobody is going to win a 5,000 meter race after running an easy 2 miles. Not with me. If I lose forcing the pace all the way, well, at least I can live with myself." - Pre

If she had Malabsorption syndrome, she would not be running as she does, no way, she'd be too weak. I think we'd better end the discussion about body types for 2 reasons. 1. did you see Jaque Taylor, whew now that was too skinny. 2. some kids are just little period. My daughter is 38lbs and 42" tall. She may see 4'9" as her adult height. She holds 3 age group records. I better not see posts like this if she makes footlocker or I am coming down on all of you

I am thoroughly disgusted with you all. Allie is 4'10" and weighs less than 90 pounds. Still...I personally know her and she lifts weights daily. She eats healthy. She's struggled with overtraining but is finding a good balance. Finally, she's one of the humblest, kindest people I've ever met. I realize that there are problems with female runner, but Allie's healthy.

And congrats :)

i guess built means solid....a lot of times yound distance runners look that way because there is nothing on them to hide it which is not a good thing...yes they arent gonna get bulky muscles cause we arent built to get bulky muscles but distance runners can look strong...not skinny in my opinion most of these girls just look skinny not strong

4sstar I agree. I think weight lifting can definitely be beneficial for distance runners for injury prevention and for a little added strength. The amount of aerobic training we do won't allows us to bulk up so one shouldn't have the fear of getting bulky muscles from lifting. But its also definitely not required to be a successful distance runner.

To "Hmmm": I guess its possible depending on your definition of "built" as a distance runner. Are all successful professional distance runners from all over the world built by your definition??

Eat a bleepin dorito! Kind of funny...but I wanted to say something on the subject of weights. Weights aren't the devil, but we aren't really looking to bulk up either. I think I could reference the newest Wednesday Workouts video. They don't lift weights..they do core routines and such to avoid injury.

Jamo does weights.
That does not mean everybody should do them, but I do think it shows that saying, "Distance runners should not do weights" is incorrect bc weights def help some runners.

im pretty sure you can still be built and be a runner i probably to more aerobic activity than any of these girls and im not rail thin and im built so its not about the aerobic activity its that they are fueling/refueling their bodies like they need to

"bab and hasay they are amazing runners and they are built"

It's dumb to compare runners with others with their body appearances and their success. Everyone is differently built based on genetics. There are successful distance runners in high school, college, and beyond with all sorts of different running builds (ranging from stick thin, medium thin, heavy thin).

"i have much more respect for runners who arent hurting themselves to be better....its about having fun and working hard, but staying healthy"
How do you know if a runner girl or guy is hurting themselves health wise to be better? For all you know they nourish themselves perfectly fine but they are just skinny because of the high aerobic work they do. I know for a fact that it is incredibly difficult (but not impossible) to put on weight in muscle regardless of how much they eat with all the high aerobic mileage distance runners do. If it was easy we would be seeing a lot of bigger ripped distance runners out there (Which is clearly not the case). Obviously they are eating enough otherwise they would continue to drop weight leading them to being hospitalized. Theres a huge difference between just being really skinny/thin and having energy to run hard and being sick/anorexic with no energy and on the verge of dying/being hospitalized.

i agree 100% i have much more respect for runners who arent hurting themselves to be better....its about having fun and working hard, but staying healthy...no one wants to see a runner out there who could be broke in half. someone needs to inform these girls especially if they want to continue their career at a higher elite level

'Anonymous Coward' poster below me,

I dont think this post is attacking allie or going after her. its about a bigger issue of female runners (and athletes in general) having problems. maybe allie is fine, but the fact is there are many young women with weight issues and its scary. i think everyone just wants to see people safe and healthy. allie is a great girl and ran awesome....but the issue isn't just talking about allie

well i think that runners dont need to look like that at all look at both bab and hasay they are amazing runners and they are built...not like the tiny middle schoolers we allow to race in our high school races. I just think that these coaches or parents or even teammates are leading these girls into a position they do not want to be in. I was an amazing runner when i was 5'3 82 pounds and now that i am 5'6 115 pounds im even better as both an athlete and a person.

You are serioudly missing the point ingvill, I mentioned I was one of those high school skinnies, I was 5'2" and weighed 83 lbs. My 3200 meter time was 10:37. I went to college, I fell apart just like Burma and the others are saying.. Yes, I kicked butt, but in the long run it did me no good. We are just pointing out reality, we have seen it too many times before. Yes, in america we have an obesity problem, but not everyone does and that's not what we are talking about here. We are talking about the lives of these girl runners.

ingvill,
yes, we know too many americans are fat but what does that have to do w/ this 90lb college senior.
she did a great job. no doubt about it but if she doesn't mature properly becuase of a lack of nutrients and fat,she will literally fall apart. stress related injuries and other injuries will dominant her college career. i honestly give her a 25% chance of being successful in college and ever hearing from her again.

Ok, well, I have met a lot of elite runners that do hillsprints instead of weight lifting, but I'm not saying that weightlifting is useless. This girl looks perfect to me, and she has definitely worked really hard to get this good so young! No athlete from my country (probably no athlete in all Europe, Africa..) would call her too skinny for a distance runner.

But it's probably harder to be fit like she is, in a country where one of every three persons is dying of fat...I don't mean that in a bad way. I also feel sorry for you sore losers that are posting negative comments about her weight, instead of giving her compliments.

You are ALL ridiculous, saying that it was "nasty" watching her run. Allie goes to my high school and she's about 5 feet tall AND DUH she's a runner so FO COURSE she's skinny. But she's ripped and eats a lot plus she has a health problem where her body can't hold nutrients so you can all stop talking about things you know NOTHING about.

Okay ingvill, I'll stick to my plan and you stick to yours. My point was, college workouts are much tougher and demand greater reserves. I to hill sprints on my easy days. The final word, look at Jordan, she kicks ass and doesn't look like a skeleton.

First of all Cachecticnomore, runners should not do any weightlifting, do hillsprints instead. I see a lot of comment belove from bitter overweight girls, that is kind of sad. And Burma why don't you go and tell ryan hall (59 kilograms) or Dathan, that they should get fatter so they can be as good as you :)

Good point about post HS careers of FL runners, I Dont't Know. Less weight can certainly improve performance. But at some point you get deminishing returns. At some point to thin is detremental to your health. If you normal body processes start to break down running will be a second thought.

Your points are valid but this girl is not this small only bc she is a runner. I mean she is 18 years old and less then 100 lbs.... far less. Allie and Brasovan are both to skinny and personally should not have been allowed to run. 90 percent of the good college coaches don't even look at this girl as a recruit bc they know they will not do anything in college. If you compare what the Boys footlocker champions fo after HS with the Girls there is a huge difference. Men's footlocker champions go on to win NCAA titles and the Olympics, while I believe there has only been one Footlocker Champion to win even one NCAA champion.

You people realize that distance running naturally cuts into muscle giving you the small arms/upper body look and makes it very difficult to gain muscle right? Doing a ton of aerobic exercise (which distance runners do) makes you look that way. A lot of fast distance running girls/guy look skinny and bony because of the ton aerobic exercise they do. Whats new about that? She's a distance runner not a wrestler. What do you expect? Her sport is a sport that requires a lot of aerobic exercise to be successful which naturally thins a person out. Distance running is a sport where literally almost all competitive runners are in the category of thin. And the reason behind that is because of the predominantly amount of aerobic exercise they do.

hey Trojans, there is no humor in eating disorders and don't be so immature that you go back to the usual wussy way of fighting back, "She's faster than you." Cuz she's not faster then me and i'm not the one who looks like a 3rd grader when i should really be looking like i'm in h.s. this girl needs some muscle and fat on her bones b4 she literally falls apart or the female triad takes over.

yes i have to agree i was once too skinny too made it to the national level then fell apart and was hospitalized for 6 weeks...it happens and its not the best place to be unless they are willing to give up their dreams. It feels so much better to run and be active when you look your age and know that you are strong...not sickly looking and w/e coach is saying you can always be more skinny needs to get a clue i have more respect for athletes that are strong looking that go out a do what they can do rather than rail thin girls that represent a bad image for those that look up to them

being one of those formerly too skinny high schoolers, I can honestly say thet it does not pay. You will get good times for awhile, then the axe falls and so does your dreams. Your body needs fat for healthy nerve function. Your body needs storage to recuperate. Period. Mark my words, you'll pay for it in college, where they work you twice as hard, especially in the weight room.

i firmly agree w/ killer arms. this girl has defined arms because she has like 3% body fat. that is very unhealthy for a teenage girl. even a tennage guy is unhealthy at that body fat percentage. in a couple of years, these rail thin girls (this girl, brasovan)will never be heard from again due to injuries and other problems.
