yeah Bolt was absolutely amazing and could easily have won this award but getting 1-6 is hard in small high school races much less in a great college conference such as the Pac10. Also, Bolt has gotten so much recognition (including IAAF male athlete of the year) flotrack was maybe going for a performance less heard of. But in general there is a lot of distance coverage.

FloTRACK or Flo distance/cross country? Change the title or change the content. I have no prob. with the content, but let's be real 90% of the content is distance related. Case in point, Washington xc over Usain Bolt for most dominating. HELLO! Are you kidding me!!! Gold medals, Olympics, the World vs. Pac10 girls.

Like Coach Cook said,Decker-Slaney holds the womens' outdoor1500m AR in 3:57.1-something (in the 1980s I think )and Favor-Hamilton the #2 time in 3:57.4-something in 2000(if memory serves).

Ryan -- "our awards more speak to what we have covered and where we have been."

Thanks for the clarification. I think this should be stated more clearly in each video and upon the title of the awards because it's not clear how this is exactly presented.

Mary Decker holds the American Record in the 1500 in 3:57.

Favor does have the American junior record though.

No doubt he's a great coach, but not knowing that the AR is 3:57 by Favor-Hamilton kind of stunned me. Obviously he focuses on "getting sh!t done" than what other people are doing....

metcalf won flocoach of the year for the ncaa cross country season, where as cook won the 'all-around' coaching award for the 2008 year.

as for a bias on US distance running, its not that there is a bias. our awards more speak to what we have covered and where we have been. hopefully we can continue to do more and travel to other places.
thanks to everyone for following and giving your opinions, its great to hear!

Try Franno:
1-2-3 in the women's 100m at the Olympic Games, 1st in the women's 400m hurdles, 3rd in the women's 200m. And then Powell can run brilliant anytime it's not a championship final.

Not even close. Not sure what the basis of Flotrack's selections are here. It seems to be just U.S. distance running, perhaps. But best coach of the year among all track & field....please.

Cook had an awesome year and deserves this honor. No other US distance coach has two athletes ranked in the top 10 in the world for 2008.

I can't wait to see what these talented ladies achieve in 2009!
