Chris buddy, have you thought that you just might have not been that good? Haha did you ever look past yourself just a few moments and wake up and realize "Hey this is Big 12 track and xc and I am just not that great..."? I doubt it had anything to do with one bad race it probably went along the lines of they were half-heartedly recruiting you in the first place. That happens with all programs my brotha, no need to be antagonistic. Also, if you want to express your opinion and bash the ISU program and Coach Ihmels, this is fine, just type in proper English so your response carries some sort of validity. As far as Lisa Koll being the only sales pitch for the next 10 years? Even if that was the case, that is one sweet sales pitch. Lisa Koll invested into the program and ran with it, no pun intended. There will be others. Believe me, Lisa Koll will not be the only highlight of ISU in the upcoming years although she leaves a very tough trail to follow. Coach Ihmels may have made some mistakes, everyone does, he is young and learning. Be weary that you may not know everything about every situation as well. Give it a few more years before you claim such ridiculousness. I mean top 20 at Nationals wasn't dreamed of 5 years ago. Bitterness never shows much reason.

I Agree With Chris   March 10 at 12:45pm
hillary bor was good when he got here and kiel uhl would have been a national junior champion no matter where he went. ihmels will have to use lisa koll as a recruiting pitch for the next ten years because that is the only athlete with success he may have actually had something to do with

Maybe they would be a better program if they wouldn’t give up on their recruits... They were recruiting me and I got mono the week of state and had a bad race. They wouldn’t talk to me after that. They don’t stick with there recruits. Also he doesn’t really develop his runners. Lisa Koll is really good but that is just one runner. If you look at the guys he has they really hit the foreigners ... He really hasn’t developed (besides Lisa and I know she isn’t a guy) any American runner. Also if you look at his golden boy foreigner Yonas Mebrahtu, who supposable ran 13:30 5k as an 18 year old. If I recall he didn’t do squat this year at nationals or conference. He hasn’t really turned anyone into a great runner. I personally think he is a bad coach and isn’t right for the job, and I’m glad that they stop recruiting me. .

Not recruiting in the sprints is a bad idea. Sure, put more of your money into distance because that's your thing, but If you don't have sprints, you wont have a good track team.

Takes Time   March 9 at 12:58pm
rebuilding a program doesn't happen over night. they will move in right direction and have a strong team in time. its big 12 though, its gotta be hard to recruit against schools like texas with the weather, colorado with tradition/boulder, and texas a&m;with the facilities. he's got the right idea

Looks like they will continue doing what theyve done the last 10 years. Talk the big talk, but not even be the best program in the state of Iowa(Northern Iowa). Tell in state recruits that the ISU program is on another level, and they must hit certain times to make the team, only to see them go to UNI and watch the panthers kick their butt on the track.

The distance program and throws are the only improving areas for this program.

Corey Inmels was the Kinney National Champion (now the Footlocker National Championship) coming out of high school. He came to Iowa State and was part of a national championship XC team in 1994. Now, almost 15 years later, he is back in his 7th season as coach of his alma mater trying to rebuild a program to what it once was.
