Galen Rupp will be opening up his indoor season this weekend at Washington, but he won't be doing his typical events. In an effort to work on some speed, we'll see him in the 800 and mile. Flotrack's Kevin Danaher caught up with Galen at the Oregon XC Banquet.

results???
Galen ran 1:51:33 for the 800
Galen ran 4:10 and change for the mile
Mile was really weird though, there were probably four guys at least (including Galen) who could have gone under 4 but for some reason no one wanted to lead and they were all watching Galen. About 150 in, Galen just slows down for some weird reason (even the announcer said "unusually slow pace) and then Steve Sherer (spell?) decided to take over after 500, held a strong 20-30m lead until the straight away, thats when Galen moved like a freight train and taped steve at the line, exciting finish but i definitely was disappointed about overall slow pace. Galen's last 800 was reported as 1:55....
if the mile is first, then i say he runs 4:00, 1:54
if the 800 is first, then i say he run 1:52, 4:04
either way, both are pretty good doubles for season openers. i have no idea what kind of shape he is as far as being prepared for middle distances, but he did do that impressive 30/40 workout in the middle of xc season, which makes me thinks his anaerobic threshold is significantly higher than last year. if the mile is first, at best he runs no faster than 3:59. if the 800 is first, at best he runs no faster than 1:50.
He can do it!
