looks like a tough workout. Doesn't seem like Jesus is all that impressive, though especially for a 17 year old.

For those who are wondering where Leo Manzano trained in Mexico, I can tell you that he did high altitude trainning in Nevado de Toluca a 15,000 ft peak above sea level. He ran along with German Silva a his team, as you remember Silva won the NYCM. I recommend you to visit the Nevado where you can find a 16mi trail to the peak. German Silva organizes twice a year (Feb. & Aug.) a high altitude trainning there.

Not Mexican   April 13 at 11:21am
I'm not from Mexico but i've been there for bussiness and pleasure a few times and the only polution i saw was around Mexico City. The rest of the country is not poluted at all. Guadalajara and Moterey are large cities and the air in both of them was clean when i visited there. So saying the Mexico is for most part poluted is a huge over statement.

Its Physiology   March 26 at 6:35pm
hey man most peeps dont understand the way we train as elites. They obviously dont realize that if Leo were to be at 3:35 shape all the time he would be injured SO much. He needs to let his body rest. get some good long miles, then shape all of that base into killer speed.

Its Physiology   March 25 at 11:10pm
leo has a high distribution of fast twitch muscle fiber. base training will convert that fast twitch muscle into what is known as "intermediate" type muscle fiber (not slow twitch). he should still have had a high degree of speed for those intervals. in my opinion, he just looked sluggish due to the recent transition from altitude, and this being the first workout of the year.

Poopie   March 25 at 11:03pm
for leo, he should have been under 2:05 for that lap, come on he splits 1:58's in the mile... no matter how much slow twitch muscle he has recruited

Understand This   March 25 at 8:21pm
Leo is filled with fast twitch muscle fibers. The guy is quick. He is stepping on the track doing some "speed" work for the first time in a very long time. His body is shocked during this workout. He has been recruiting mostly slow twitch fibers during his base period, doing longer, relatively slower(compared to his mile pace) miles. If he did this workout in 3 weeks after having done a few other track workouts, that 207 would be below 2 for sure, and every other rep would be faster. Its physiology.

yeah right trash...i suppose you would have nailed it right. you arm chair coaches crack me up for real. you are probably like, a 2:10 half miler or something...do you even run track? Seriously...look at what the workout is...all with a one minute rest...trash you say...your silly. you should put not in front of your name, as in not well. Here's an idea... go to the track with a camera... record yourself doing the same workout, don,t forget the 1 min recovery(no more) post the video on flotrack so we can all see how not well you did. Trash ...that's hilarious.

Great video! And I was just wondering what was happening to Leo as he's been under the radar for quite a while. This ladder workout, does one proceeds from the 200 to the 800 the intensity gets harder? Correct me if im wrong. ( Effort wise how should they feel like? I have wanted for some time to try out a ladder workout)

He came to the US when he was 4. He's American. Rowbury, Donahue, and Flanagan went down to Mexico to train at German Silva's high altitude training center. Does that make them any less American?

Cook has spoken very highly of Vig's ability to develop talent. It seems the two have a connection. Last I heard - he is still coached by Vig with on-site help by Ponsoby in Austin. They did team up with Cook to do the Altitude Training in Mexico and probably also to work on some strength and bio-mechanical issues. I could be totally wrong - however.
