Nice Video..............DO YOU KNOW WHERE I CAN GET ONE OF THOSE AMAZING SHIRTS?
I love Ritz! This is an awesome vid...Ritz has to come to the Chicago Marathon! He could rip out a sick time there for sure. Keep it up Dathan and Brad!
The first 8K in 26:07 as a moderate pace ? 9:17 for 2 mile split, 8:33 for the one of the last 3Ks ? He makes it look so easy. Simply awesome ! Ritz's marathon time is getting better every time. 2:10.00 for London is a nice PR. Keep up the good work Ritz and Brad. The marathon time will drop more and more. Hope he runs Chicago this fall. With good weather, he could uncork a very fast marathon. Thanks Flotrack. It's great to see these type of workouts.
Correct me if I am wrong, but, I believe anonymous coward is all the people that post without filling in a name. I have seen one person I know post that did not use a name and came out as a coward...so this makes me believe it is the case.
I will make sure I beat your ass. I will bring it down to 2.02.30 in London this Sunday. I am aiming for 1.01.45 first half, and 1.01 for the second half. I will show it to you Haile.
Ritz is looking fantastic and if he has good day he will do well here in London. Regardless of the outcome, I say that Ritz and Hall should train together for a while for a big marathon i.e. New York. Maybe they have already done this somewhat, but what a challenge it would be for the both of them to keep their cool and push each other like crazy on workouts! Maybe two weeks in Mammoth and then two weeks in Eugene - trade off locations. Supposedly they are friends and we know they have raced against each other many times. Both coaches would have to put their egos and agendas aside for a time and let them work together. I might be weird at first, even stressful but it will do nothing but help American distance running – they’ve got to work together! What have they got to lose? First, set some ground rules, workout a schedule and just make it happen. How much longer are they going to allow money and shoe companies to get in their way? This is the "Kenyan" approach!! And it if you hadn’t noticed lately, it’s been working! This may sound like a “Looney Toon idea” but I really think that it would work!!

its your cache, the first time you load it your computer`s internet connection must have got messed up and the next time it thinks its loaded it completely. reset your cache (google it up depending on ur browser) and it will load fine

He wears a heart rate monitor, and a watch seperately. If you look at the old video you can see it more clearly. I'm pretty sure he only knows his pace because the road is marked. Hudson refers to him running a certain time for the 400 during the fartlek.

absolutely beautiful biomechanics. i love how the only sound his step makes is the flicking of pavement behind him. other runners want to portray gods, dathan exemplifies mother nature's engineering at its finest
Wanjiru could either blitz the first half like the olympics or more likely conservatively keep it steady with the pressure on and run a negative split.MMMMM! Ritz is looking GOOD and might be smart to stay in the hunt at the back of the first pack and then just hang on like James Kwambi in Berlin and Rotterdam and get a huge PR. If he reaches way down deep and runs with equal parts brains and cajones american distrance running is in for another big surprise! Go RITZ!
Should be a fierce battle. Wanjiru is definitely ready, but Lel has a hip issue and just got an MRI on it. But not to be overlooked is Tadese of Eritria. Many are awaiting his debut and I think he will run at least 2:06 if not a debut world record which is 2:05:50 by Evans Rutto from the 2003 Chicago marathon. Ritz will be in the low 2:07's. He is looking really fit, the main issue is will Ritz have other people to run with. There will be a pack going world record pace and a pack going 2:07 pace but that is not definite as Ritz said himself. I just don't want Ritz to fall apart by going out too hard but it would also suck to have to run it alone.

Anonymous Coward is the name flotrack.org automatically tags on somebody who doesn't fill out the "Enter Your Name" box. That's all. I think its quite funny.
Good luck Dathan! It's so great to see that you've been healthy. Haul ass in London!
Do ya think, do ya think, he's a little tired of hearing about ryan hall. I say he throws down his own 2:06 at London, stays with the east africans, and makes his own case as america's premier marathoner.
Really, do you really think when people say that anonymous coward posted a bunch of times, that they really mean it. I think the joke is lost on you.haha Just kidding with you.
Great video. I agree that the workout videos need to be as long as this one. The 6 and 7 minute videos just don't do it for me. I need more. My addiction needs to be satisfied.
Are people serious when they make comments about "anonymous coward". It is just the default name that comes up if you don't put anything in the box. The flotrack guys made it that way as a joke.
tyler they mean 1k at a time so his first was 3:17 then his 2nd k he did it in 3:19 not 2k in 3:19 just his 2nd k was in 3:19. i see how you could have been confused tho.

Actually... running with a more "natural" shoe (as most light racing shoes are) could be beneficial.

I think mose elites naturally have pretty good mechanics where they can wear a neutral light shoe. Plus I am an overpronator and still wear flats to do speedwork which is essentially what this was so I would expect Ritz to be okay doing the same.

XC Next Year said: My wish for the future of US Distance would be for our top guys to all agree to do World Cross next year. No Olympics or Worlds next year so they could all focus on it. The marathon guys could use a break from 2 per year. Think about it: Hall, Ritz, Webb, Lagat, Torres Bros, Goucher, and others. Pretty solid team all with XC experience. It would do huge things for the sport if we were to win that.
Are you joking? That American team would have a hard time winning JUNIOR world cross country much less the big race.
Seriously, we would have no chance, even with a completely stacked team, of beating the Africans at cross country.
It's what they do above and beyond anything else, just like the steeplechase.

I would love to see Dathan Ritzenhein and Ryan Hall do a fall marathon together. I read an article today on Running Times and he said they were 1 and 1 for marathons but man if the those two worked together in the marathon like some of the other countries do, fast times and podium finishes could possibly happen more often. I'm not saying there shouldn't be a competition between the two but its just a thought.
ritz has a shot to surprise some people this weekend. when most of the US seems to be focused on how boston did or didn't turn out, this could be a good opportunity for him.
The 2009 London Marathon will mark the fourth time Dathan has toed the line in a major marathon over the past 3 years. With an ever increasing fitness level for Ritz, Dathan and Brad have had plenty of time to tweak and analyze the buildup for Sunday. Coming off one of the best workouts Ritz has ever had in Eugene, we followed them on this fartlek workout 3 days later. To say the duo is excited to get back on the course racing is an understatement.
To watch our last workout filmed on this very same course, Lorane Highway, prior to a 2nd place finish at the '07 Olympic Marathon Trials in NYC, you can go here.
This workout was filmed on March 31, 2009 on one of Eugene's best training courses. With accurate kilometer marks spread over 10 miles of back country road, it provides an invaluable resource to runners looking to train. A 'hidden gem' of sorts within the greater Willamette Valley. Music credit goes to 'The Stills - Rooibos' and 'U2 - Magnificent'.

I gotta agree on the world cross idea. We always have a team that doesn't really show our true potential.
