Why does everyone try to do the same pace and rest? Are they all very similar runners? Is the workout aimed at the top guys and the bottom guys gradually die out?

They are doing quarters, but not crazy fast and with only 60 sec rest. For guys with those PR's, it's not like they are maxed out. 65 for the long group is about 3k pace right? Basically vo2 intervals.

Yes, UNM's team is on the rise. Coack Franklin is doing an amazing job. But they have had some sucess in the past. It's not like all their runners were 2:08 runners. That's one guy. Matt Gonzales was the runner-up in cross and outdoor 10K (2004). In 2004, the team finished ninth at the NCAA Champs. That team also has Ben Ortega who ran 28:50 at Stanford and then there's Jeremy Johnson who graduated last year who was All-America in cross and track.

Dude 5200 feet is no sweat. If you really want your lungs to breathe out of you butt try running indoors in Flagstaff. It's really cold and the altitude will kill you 7,000 feet baby! NAU! Whoop there it is!

Weather   January 28 at 4:54pm
It isn't incredibly warm in central New Mexico. There are much warmer regions. This did look like a warmer day but not as hot as you might think. Albuquerque is no Phoenix. It's at 5,200 feet so it can get cold and snow.

That is a heck of a lot better New Mexico team than has been there in the last few years. I remember the conference indoor meet a couple of years back where they had somebody entered at 2:08 in the 800... made me wish that I had actually made the team at my school, I wouldn't have been the slowest guy at the conference meet!
