anonymous coward, who is assuredly the same poster as shes still

She's not smokin. As others have said, you really need to get out of your basement. There's real women out there, not that they'd want anything to do with you, but maybe they'll let you look. Good luck with that!
Kara.........2:24 plus at Boston. In line with most of the sensible posters on this topic. Sub 2:20..............sure! She'll never break 2:20, ever. Not the first to say it, but I'm saying it anyways.

You obviously lack knowledge in many areas of life, and this is one of them. By the way, it's spelled jealous, not jealus. Also, what do we have to be jealous of?

Haters you say, that is a bit childish don't ya think? It's called being realistic, not a star struck high schooler like yourself. Kara won't be below 2:20 at Boston or even a sub 2:22 that many have spoken of. You must be thinking of Paula. Oh, but wait, you're a Paula hater!!! Your name tells me all I need to know. Childish posts with nothing to back it up. You'll be making excuses when Kara doesn't come through on April 20th. Talk to ya then.

Continues to progress????? You can relate to her???? What does that have to do with any of the previous posts????? She's not going to run 2:22 in Boston. I'll be back on April 20th. I agree with most of what the last 5 or 6 posts say, except for Anonymous Coward. See you on April 20th.

Sure, Kara Goucher is not as good as Paula yet. But she has shown amazing potential by debuting faster than any other American. I absolutely love her spirit. On paper, she doesn't match up to Shalane Flanagan, but she's still my favorite American runner because I can relate to her. I believe she will reach her goals. She continues to progress, so there is no reason to doubt her. That's not to say, she will achieve her goal in Boston, it might take more time than that, but it's certainly not her last chance. Best of Luck Kara!

Another Guys Opinion   February 27, 2009 at 11:03am
I must say, I don't hate her, but I have to agree with a few of the posts. A 2:25 plus your first time out and then saying that you'll be going after Paula's world record one day is really a bit much. As someone pointed out, Paula went about 7 minutes faster her first time out. Just because Kara beat Paula over a 1/2 marathon doesn't mean anything. It was Paula's first race back in quite some time, and she proved that at New York City this past fall. She can't be judged by the Olympics because she was injured. Kara ran her best time ever for 10,000 and was still 10th in the Beijing, and she was healthy as she's ever been. Kara should cash in while she can (which is what she's doing), because the hype will be over soon.

One Guys Opinion   February 25, 2009 at 3:11pm
I agree that you that she won't go 2:22 in Boston, BUT I do believe she will run at least 2:24 and change (at best), which is pretty much 5:30 pace for the marathon. Yes, she is overrated and hyped a bit too much (for obvious reasons), which is sad really.

I would also be willing to bet that she will be lucky if she breaks 2:20, EVER! The other gal, Flanagan, will most definitely break 2:20, when she takes up the marathon.

Coach K.   February 25, 2009 at 11:53am
Boston is sadly going to be a bust for Kara. She's not there yet and may never be. Joan Benoit ran 2:22 and change there back in 1983 (don't quote me) I believe, and Kara will NOT run 2:22 plus at Boston. Good weather or bad weather, she will not run that fast. Yes, I am new here, but I thought I'd put in my 2 cents like everyone else. I have coached at the collegiate level and can assure you that Kara will not go through the half in 1:11 and come back just as fast on the Boston Marathon course. Like others have said, she's good, but not great and not at the level of Paula (who kicked her butt in New York City!). I pesonally predicted a 2:26 for her and I was close. Those who thought she would actually run 2:22 at New York need their heads examined. Be realistic, she's well above average, but again, not great. Sorry Kara, it ain't gonna happen in Boston. No way!

Well said Mike M.!!!!! I think too many runners are enamored by her personality and know nothing about running. Kara recently said she'll go after Deana's record and then take a shot at Paula's 2:15. It will never happen. Kara does not have that ability. Paula ran 2:18 the first time out, which is almost 7 minutes faster than Kara's. She's just not THAT good.

To the poster named Wow.

The guy (Jay) is probably legit and can run as fast as he said. You are obviously jealous or have some personal issues. You've probably never broken 6 minutes for a mile and are a troll or a wanna be who never will be. I don't post here often, but your immature response was so dumb that I felt the need to come to his defense. He's right, as the other poster said. Someone's times are their times. You can't change them and neither can I. You're stuck with your 6:30 pr and he's stuck with his 4:17. With a name like Wow, you are obviously a trouble making troll. Go away and this site will be better off.
I varified the times that he listed on post #32 and he was dead-on. Gallo would have easily defeated Goucher had she ran at Millrose. Also, on paper, Shalane is better than Kara. That can't be argued by anyone.
Happy Running!

Gallo............4:27.90 (Boston)
Goucher.......4:33.19 (Millrose), she's amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Goucher wins the millrose mile because..............you can figure it out, but think really, really hard.
Now, is everyone on this board giving kudos to Gallo. Nope. Where's the b. crew now? Gallo gets no credit and Goucher is praised because Kara is better looking.

This WOW guy is stupid! Shalane, 14:47 american record for 5k indoors. Only 9 seconds slower at the 3k point than Kara's overall 3k time. Shalane still had 2k to go. Yeah, I guess you're right, Kara's way better over 5k than Shalane. What was I thinking?

Drake Da Ponte, you know nothing about running. Shalane is better at both the 5k and 10k and will eventually be at the marathon also, and to think I thought you knew something about running. What is Kara's 10k best versus Shalane's? Kara's bronze at the WC was because the lack of talent, you know.............like the best people at that distance weren't in the race. Think about it, Kara pr'd in Beijing and couldn't get better than 10th? Does that help???????????????
Biff.................everyone I run with can run under 5 minutes for the mile, but you're probably right. A lot of people on this site can't and don't know anything about running. That is a fact.
Bif..........that marathon in November did NOTHING to mess up her speedwork. Are you serious? Get a clue dude!
Anonymous Coward, you are a coward. You must live under a rock!
Thermo.............Kara can win a mile race for one reason. The best milers weren't in the race. Marathoner you say? She's got a long way to go! A sub 2:26 is a good start, but Kara has a lot of work to do to drop almost 6 minutes. Running about 5:21 per mile versus 5:33 is a big difference. Her half marathon time beating Paula was downhill and can't be used for comparison. Even Kara knows that!

yes it would be crazy to see Kastor and Radcliff run a mile, but Goucher is not like them. She's unique and that's what makes her who she is.
If you can run a mile and win it...why shouldn't you run that mile? Who cares if you're a marthoner, she's able to do short and long distances so let her be!

Kara didn't beat her in the trials! You know nothing about running!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shalane ran for the top 3 you moron!!!
Who's got the faster PR's?
Who kicked who'd but by about 30 seconds in Beijing?
Shalane is WAAAAAAAY better at both the 5 and 10k but you are too misinformed and intellectually challenged to figure it out for yourself.
You can remove your jealous head out of your butt about now, people are starting to wonder anonymous coward. Your name fits you well.
b. crew and you are fans because you are both star struck and want to know what kind of toothpaste she uses. It's called insecurity. Grow up!!!!! The facts are the facts, Shalane is better by far. Kara got her butt kicked in the 10,000 and Shalane will kick her butt when she moves up to the marathon. Kara's 4:33 is not that impressive and she knows it, but you morons apparently don't.

I was able to stand behind the camera and watch over Mark's shoulder at the 5th Avenue Mile this past year, and thought it was awesome! These interviews are perfect. Everyones just relaxed and hanging out. It keeps the community type of feel that's so intrinsic to the sport of running. Its great that there's a place like flotrack that spreads that community for the whole web to be a part of. Thanks guys. Keep it up.

I have to weigh in and say I agree with John Borman. If you want broadcast 101 go to a different website. These guys get them relaxed comfortable and talking. We get to know them better than anybody. If you want to stress them out and hear the normal crap watch 60 minutes or something. This is not a venue for trying to trip people up and make them not want to be part of this. Ryan and Mark you are doing great. Continue it.

I love how you guys say "talk about it, or talk about that". It lets them say what's on their mind instead of making the answer have boundaries and you miss something that they might want to talk about. I think they like that looseness too. I can't stand formal interviews. Leave that to the interviewers that don't know anything about running. Great Interview.
