Re: UCHS sucks

Jim McCarthy and Dale Fleet are INCREDIBLE coaches. UC has a terrific distance program. The respect that the UC coaches have in the San Diego community and the strength of the UC Alumni support speaks volumes. Ask anyone with one black shoelace.
Watch Mac's Mt. Sac Relays video. Give respect to get respect. From 4:08 to 4:35 (and even 5:10), everyone at UC works hard and respects each other. The strength of the program goes beyond its many championship performances. It's about developing quality individuals, and fostering a passion and respect for the sport.

This kid has all it takes to reach those kind of goals: incredible talent, strong desire, and confidence. Ah confidence, often seen as arrogance, conceit, iness, etc. Without it, talent and desire are not enough to reach the highest goals. If Mac can stay healthy, I thinks he's got a shot at 'em. Let's re-convene in June to talk about how it all turned out!

He does come off a bit arrogant in the interview, but that is forgivable after winning at BIG

His dad was my assistant coach in high school. I remember Mac used to run and bike along with the team when he was in elementary school. He's not conceited, but he's got some good genetics on his side, absolutely amazing coaches, and he's got the right mentality to push himself to his limits, just like his father.

Mac isn't conceited, he's set serious goals that he plans on reaching, and I think it'll be amazing to watch him try to attain those goals.

Ask some people who were in the stands timing Danielson's "3:59" -- several watches had more like 4:01. Still a hot time but the legend has some smoke around it.

I respect this kid because he doesn't set puny goals for himself like many of you. In no way is this bragging.

the kid ran extremely well, but is pretty arrogant with his 4:09 mile performance that 100s of other people that can run sub 4:10

I love the casual- " Oh, just the San Diego County records..." oh, wait that includes Tim Danielson's sub 4 (Danielson was the last high school prep to break 4 before Webb did)... those are some pretty lofty goals, and some pretty elite company.

Then you obviously don't know him. Comes from a very solid background. Father was a stud, father's friends were very good runners. This kid is just well versed in this sport. I've known him since he was a very young boy, conceited is not a word I would have used...confident...yep.
